MIT (Mechanical Eng.)
Harvard University (MBA)
Hello! I am a PhD engineering student at MIT and Master's student at Harvard with a real passion for teaching people of all ages in virtually all fields of study. I have 2000+ hours of tutoring experience, and I usually work with a few students at a time. I am firmly confident in my ability to teach you what you need to know in order to succeed. Please don't hesitate to contact me! I have historically most commonly taught math, science, programming, and standardized test prep, though I am open to many other fields of study.
I've thus far earned four engineering degrees from MIT, where I graduated in 2011 with two Bachelor of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering and again in 2015 with Master of Science degrees in Technology & Policy and Mechanical Engineering. I also earned minors in Applied International Studies and German during my undergraduate studies. I love to teach, and would be glad to speak with you about anything you'd like to learn, review, or otherwise reinforce. I have tutored several students and adults of ages ranging from 10-55 in a variety of areas including math, science, engineering, standardized test, English, and German. I am able to teach at all levels, including elementary school, high school, college, and post-graduate students. Please contact me if you would be interested in exploring the possibility of having me serve as your tutor.
I consider myself a real people-person who thrives when interacting with others. I rose to the rank of Eagle Scout back in scouting during my high school days, and love to take on leadership roles of increasing responsibility, including teaching my students what they need in order to succeed. I come from a transient military family and have five brothers, so I am used to frequently meeting and working with new people. I have extensive experience training and preparing my students for standardized tests such as the SAT, ACT, PSAT, LSAT, GMAT, and GRE. I thoroughly enjoy tutoring, and hope to continue broadening the academic horizons of students here in the Greater Boston Area.
I was valedictorian of my high school, and have scored perfect scores in mathematics and science (e.g. 800 SAT and 36 ACT) on most standardized tests that I have taken including the SAT, ACT, GRE, and ASVAB. I have a wealth of knowledge and personal experience with tutoring students for school and standardized test preparation, which I hope to effectively share with many others! Hello! Ian is smart, patient and very good at communicating with my boys. They look forward to their tutorial as Ian makes it interesting and relevant to their age group and general interest.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration at Harvard University, where I learn with some of the top business leaders from around the world. I have worked as a product planning intern under the business division of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, where I benchmarked company products against competitors offerings and generated recommendations for future company product portfolios. I furthermore have earned a master's degree from MIT in technological leadership, a major component of which includes business and economics instruction.
