About Johnny

I have recently graduated from Rutgers-Newark with a double major in Mathematics and Physics. I have been passionate about teaching math ever since I tutored math and physics. Despite extensive experience working in electronics communications, my most rewarding job has been teaching high school math in a summer program to prepare students for college. My practical experience in electronics as well as my background in Physics helps me to both understand and explain applications of mathematics.

I am able to teach a wide range of both high school and college level math ranging from algebra and calculus I, II, and III to linear algebra, differential equations, and partial differentials among others. Having received a 780 on my SATs and having recently engaged in test preparation as part of the high school college prep summer program, I am experienced in tutoring SAT mathematics as well. Furthermore, I am fluent in Spanish and am both capable of and willing to tutor math in Spanish.

I have now been tutoring intermittently for 9 years. I am highly qualified in mathematics and physics, I am patient, and passionate to help anyone seeking assistance in a wide range of mathematics and physics. I am looking forward to helping you understand and gain the confidence to achieve more in your education.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

AFOQT

I have tutored 7 students on the AFOQT already and all have passed. As a former military member, I can give first hand experience knowledge about the military in general, and better relate to the student. Lastly the exam is very much math intensive and that is the typical component where most students seek help for when taking this exam, and I specialize in math tutoring.

Discrete Math

I majored in Math, and as part of my course load I have taken discrete Math. I also have taken similar courses such as Foundations of Math, and Logic courses. Due to my experience I am very capable of assisting student on this subject.

Finite Math

I have take Finite math as a required course for the math degree. I also have tutored a few students in this course both while in college and after graduating. I have applied the concepts of this course with many other other including non-math courses.

Linear Algebra

As a double major of Math and Physics, I have taken multiple linear algebra course in college. I also applied the skills of linear algebra in multiple physics courses. My experiences have given me a very strong understanding of the concepts and applications of linear algebra.

Logic

I have taken multiple Logic courses in college. I got an A in my introduction to Logic course, as well as my higher level logic courses. Also I have studied logic mathematically and in the case for circuitry.

Poker

As a math major I take particular interest in Poker and its statistical components. I have been playing for over 7 years. I do play regularly at local casinos as well as in house.

Knowledgeable and patient — After his first session with Johnny, my son was so happy and excited. So many weeks of feeling lost with his pre-calc material and in just one session with Johnny he felt like there was hope for success. Johnny is patient and good-natured. He had a good sense of my son needed to start untangling his confusion. His explanations were thorough and organized. ...
