Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

College Counseling

Hello,

I have experience in College Counseling from my time working as a College Coach for Let's Get Ready, a national education non-profit. I led high school students in an SAT Verbal prep course, helped them research schools that matched well with their interests, and proofread their college admissions essays. I also worked for as an SAT essay grader for Ivy Review, an educational consulting company that guides students, parents through the full-cycle college applications process.

Study Skills

I worked as a tutor for City Year, a national education non-profit, at an inner-city high school. While there, I received training and worked with the school disability coordinator to provide students adequate support with their IEP for learning disabilities such as ADD/ADHD. I spent time helping students develop learning strategies that compensated for their learning disabilities and collaborated with teachers on ways to help integrate each students' individual learning style with the normal class lesson plan(s).

I also tutored an SAT prep course for high school students, where I helped identify useful study techniques and designed individualized schedules around each student's other time obligations.
