About Caitlin

Hi my name is Caitlin and I am a second grade teacher at a public school in Brookline. I recently transferred to this position and am teaching an inclusive class. Previous to teaching second grade I taught in a special education setting for another public school in Brookline. I was in charge of their Comprehensive Learning Center for students in grades kindergarten to four. The comprehensive Learning Center provided services for students with learning disabilities, autism, ADHD/ADD, and behavioral disorders. Overall, I have taught in Brookline for four years. Before teaching in Brookline I taught special education preschool, kindergarten, third grade, and fourth grade for the Hanover public school system for two years. I also taught general education second grade in Hanover for a year. While teaching second grade I co-taught an inclusion class with another special educator.

Prior to becoming a teacher I attended Providence College where I double majored in elementary and special education. Upon graduation I passed the Praxis and MTEL teaching exams and became a certified teacher in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island, among other states. Shortly after graduation, I enrolled in a Masters program with American International College. In December of 2011 I received a Masters degree in Moderate Disabilities.

Recently, I completed an Applied Behavior Analysis certificate program at the University of Massachusetts Boston. This was an 18 credit program. Upon completion I took and passed the national Board Certified Behavior Analysis Exam. Since I passed the exam I am now a licensed Board Certified Behavior Analyst.

I am also certified in Level 1 of the Wilson Reading Program. This is a multi-sensory systematic approach to teaching reading to students with dyslexia and learning disabilities. I took the year long course with a practicum to become certified in this reading program.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have just finished an applied behavior analysis certificate program at UMASS Boston. It was an 18 graduate credit program. I also just passed my Board Certified Behavior Analysis exam which allows me to provide BCBA services to students across the United States. I have a license to show my certification as a BCBA. A BCBA works with students who have ADD/ADHD, autism and Aspergers.

I also have a master's degree in special education.

Aspergers

I have just finished an applied behavior analysis certificate program at UMASS Boston. It was an 18 graduate credit program. I also just passed my Board Certified Behavior Analysis exam which allows me to provide BCBA services to students across the United States. I have a license to show my certification as a BCBA. A BCBA works with students who have ADD/ADHD, autism and Aspergers.

I also have a masters degree in special education. I have taught students with austin and Aspergers in my comprehensive learning center position for the town of Brookline. I was also previously one of the coordinators in a public school system for children transitioning from early intervention services to the public schools at age 2.7. The majority of children in this program were autistic or displayed characteristics of Aspergers.

Dyslexia

I am certified in the Wilson Language Program Steps 1-6. This was a year long course with a practicum component. This program is specifically designed for students with dyslexia. I have a certificate and am in the Wilson database proving I have completed the training.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have an undergraduate and graduate degree in elementary and special education. I am currently a second grade teacher for the town of Brookline. Previously, I taught special education in a comprehensive learning center for grades K-4 for the Town of Brookline. I have also taught preschool, and kindergarten in another district.

Phonics

I am certified in the Wilson Language Program Steps 1-6. This is a multi-sensory systematic approach to reading. I am also familiar with the Wilson Fundations program for students in grades K-2.

Special Needs

I am currently a special education teacher for students in grades K-4. Students within my comprehensive learning center have varied disabilities including autism, emotional/behavioral disabilities, specific learning disabilities, and communication disabilities. I also have an undergraduate and graduate degree in moderate disabilities for students in grades Pre-K to eight. I am also certified in the Wilson Language Program and Project Read. Both of these programs are used to teach reading to students with disabilities.

As a special education teacher I have experience with writing and working towards goals within an IEP, making on the spot accommodations and modifications as well as previewing, re-teaching, and reviewing taught skills.
