In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have taught 1st grade for two years in New Haven at a successful charter school. I also completed graduate level education courses at Southern Connecticut State University.
As a first grade teacher, I taught beginning phonics to students for two years. I received a high score on the Foundations of Reading examination required for teaching certification in Connecticut. I have a strong understanding of the concepts and teaching methods necessary to help students develop phonics skills.
