About Marcie

Hello!

I am a certified teacher with a Master's in Elementary Education with creative arts integration. I currently work as a kindergarten teacher, and worked in a first grade last year . I have many years of experience as a tutor in all subjects including testT preparation. I have experience working with students from pre-K to Grade 12, including those with emotional, physical, and developmental disabilities.

I have worked as a camp counselor, a children's theater choreographer, and I have training in movement and play therapy, and conflict resolution.

I have held long term nanny positions in Brookline, Charlestown, Cambridge, and Somerville. I'm familiar with the schools and neighborhoods, and the many resources the city has to offer to inspire learning and motivate students. I believe one on one tutoring helps students develop confidence in their personal learning style, and equips them with skills they can apply on their own in their classroom. Every student is unique. A tutor's job is to assist each student in maximizing their potential. Often this means taking time to figure out how best to communicate with a student, and possibly easing their anxiety about learning. Most importantly, a tutor helps students discover that learning is fun, and with new knowledge comes new possibilities!

I believe in creatively engaging children to encourage focus and independent thinking. I am patient and outgoing, and I motivate through the use of positive reinforcement. I like for children to have fun when they are learning, but I also believe in setting goals and instilling students with self discipline. I want my students to develop long lasting study habits, and to be self motivated after tutoring is complete.

My schedule is flexible, especially in the summer. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions. It's important to me to tailor my tutoring to each child's specific needs.

Thank you, and I hope to hear from you.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
