I have been teaching Spanish and Italian on the college level for nearly 15 years. It is ironic that I was told, after having taken a standardized aptitude test on language in junior high school, I could never learn another language. Apparently, the test was faulty. It is my conviction that anyone can learn another language if you have a strong desire to study, a willingness to make sounds that may seem odd at first and a lot of patience.
I have taught students on all levels. Between children who learn by playing games and adults who want to acquire a language for their degree work, I try to make language learning an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
Learning language means to learn about culture. Having lived in Puerto Rico and Italy, I immersed myself in these cultures to understand their attitudes and perspectives.

I have had many intensive daily 1 hour lessons with Robert over the last couple of weeks in preparation for my trip to Italy. Robert is the best Italian teacher I have ever had. He is very knowledgeable and practical. He LOVES what he teaches and his enthusiasm shows through. Moreover, he really cares that you learn what you can no matter your level. He is also very patient. Studying with him is an enjoyable experience.
He immediately met me at my level of limited Spanish. We started right away conversing and discussing the Spanish language. He is professional and worked with me on various ways I can learn Spanish in a short period of time both in our sessions and at home.
As an older learner of Italian with at least some experience I came in with my own agenda, rather than looking to start a brand new curriculum from square one. Robert was absolutely OK with that, answering question after question, providing excellent background and detail. I feel I got everything I needed and I will definitely be meeting with him again soon.
Robert made the Italian lessons for my son effective and fun. My son really got a good grasp of Italian before leaving for his year abroad.
I would highly recommend Robert as a tutor in both Spanish and Italian. Robert has the ability and knowledge to explain the "why" and evolution behind the way the language works in addition to the "what." This adds far more meaning to his lessons and helps my teenagers remember more.
Robert's tutoring was instrumental in my achieving a good grade in Italian 1. But, after working with Robert all semester, he cancelled our appointment a few minutes before we were to meet the day before my Italian final! He did agree to a session via Skype later that day but it was not as effective as an in person meeting.

Robert was prompt, on time and very friendly, my daughter thought he was helpful, funny, very patient and what I liked was that he kept teaching by asking questions and making her think and come up with the answer and if she did not know, he would throw hints so she would come to it by herself. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy in 1983 from St. John's Seminary College in Brighton, MA. Since then, I continued my philosophical studies while working on my Doctorate in Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy. I received the degree in 1997.
I studied with Myrna Rybczyk of Millis before entering the New England Conservatory Preparatory Division in Boston. I studied with Dr. Edwin Hymovitz at the conservatory for four years. I studied Piano Performance with Dr. Olga Stone at Boston College, Newton. I studied privately for the past 28 years with Maestro Carlo Dominici of Rome. I am presently enrolled in the New England Conservatory Professional Studies Certificate program as of the spring semester of 2013 and studying piano performance with Sergey Schepkin.

Also, it is important to affirm accumulative work that has been accomplished by the student(for example, when learning a foreign language) in order for the student to remain confident in learning future material without frustration and to remain open to finishing the study at hand without getting too complacent. This has been my experience both as a student and as a teacher.
