About Anthony

Are you…

-confused by computers?
-fasincated by computers but “computer illiterate”?
-a technophobe who needs to learn computer basics for a job?
-in need of help setting up email, using iTunes or making YouTube videos?

Computers can change the way you work, socialize and express yourself, but I feel that most people do not get a proper introduction to them and are left to sink or swim when it comes to finding out how to do many of the things they need to do. I know because most of what I know about computers has come through trial and error over many years, which is not a very efficient way of doing anything. I think computers are amazing pieces of technology and I want you to love using them as much as I do and start using them right now!

But computer experience is only half the story. Many people who know a great deal about computers have no idea how to clearly convey even the most basic concepts and can leave you even more confused than before. I have been training people how to use computers in several capacities for the past five years, from hospital databases to restaurant ordering systems. I’m one of those people that everyone comes to when they have a computer question, not because I’m a serious computer hacker, but because I like to make sure that the information is as easy to understand as possible. I don’t like to talk over your head or use a lot of technical jargon. In other words, you’ll learn exactly what YOU need to know to reach your own goals.

Even if you think your needs are embarrassingly simple, don’t worry. I truly enjoy even the most basic aspects of computers and will take the time to make sure you understand exactly what you’re doing. You’ll feel like a pro in no time.

Learn all about…

• how to set up and customize your computer system for your needs
• creating letters, spreadsheets, and other documents
• how to get online with email, Facebook, and everywhere else on the internet
• the differences between operating systems and which one is best for you.
• setting up your music, movies, and photo libraries
• basic computer hardware and software
• touching up photos and creating movies

and more!

I offer one on one tutoring for as many lessons as you want, with hourly rates from $40, depending on your needs. If you just want to learn a little bit every week on a regular basis, a cheaper rate is probably best. If you need a network of several computers to be set up just once, it will cost a little more. But I do this for the enjoyment of it to make a little extra money on the side, and if I can’t give you the help you need, there’s no charge and I’ll point you in the right direction to get the problem solved. I use both Mac OS X and Windows and would also love to teach a basic Final Cut Pro course.

Before you commit to a lesson, you can visit my website to see examples of the kinds of projects I create with my own computer. I’m looking forward to meeting with you and figuring out the best plan to get you where you need to be. Most of all, I’m looking forward to having a lot of fun showing you what your computer can do for you.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

General Computer

Learn computer basics in a fun, easy to understand way, without a lot of technical jargon. Anything from basic operation and concepts to simple word processing and media creation. Computers should be fun, and they should work for you, not the other way around. Find out what your computer can do for you.

I have been using Macs since 1984, and I think Mac OS X is just about near perfect as an operating system. I currently own three Macs that I use in various capacities, including one running Windows as well.

I use Macs to create music and movies, and they're crucial to both my job as a professional video editor and my life as an art student. And I also just love having fun tinkering around and being my family's go-to tech guy.

I've been a Mac tutor for several years and have taught adult education classes in video editing.

Microsoft Windows

I have tutored computer basics for several years, and while I currently use Macs almost exclusively, I did spend many years in the Windows world and still enjoy showing people the basics of this most ubiquitous operating system.

I specialize in simple and clear instruction for non-techies. I'm usually the one my family calls up when they have computer issues at home. I've taught adult education computer courses and have tutored in Windows and Mac OS X for several years now.

Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word is one of the most widely used computer programs in the world. Many people use it, but not everyone can clearly explain how it works because they take such knowledge for granted.

Word processing is one of the most basic functions of a computer, but if you're new to Word, or even computers in general, you'll need a little time to learn basics. I specialize in adult education and senior tutoring, or just anyone who is a non-techie kind of person.

Video Production

Learn basic video editing on Final Cut Pro of Final Cut Express on the Mac. As a level 2 Apple Certified Pro, I will get you started with this amazing and powerful non-linear digital video editing software. Import footage from taped and tapeless sources, manage project media elements, choose just the right portions of your footage and assemble a sequence. Then you can add transitions, effects, even correct sound and color problems. Finally, learn about exporting your final project to DVD, YouTube and Quicktime formats.
