About Ken

I help young professionals to study and pass the FINRA securities licensing exams including the Series 7,6 and 65. I also tutor in business subjects including college finance and financial accounting. I tutor anywhere in the Boston/Newton/Waltham area.

I work with recent college grads and young professionals on career development and job searches in the Financial Services Industry - including Wealth Management, Investment Management, Investment Technology and Investment Sales roles.

I have a B.S degree in Business Management from Providence College, and my MBA from Northeastern University (2012), with a minor in Finance. My MBA classes used the case method which allowed me to leverage my extensive experience in investment management and business operations management.

My professional background includes 7 years at Fidelity Investments, 2 years at the DE Shaw Group, 6 years at Athena Capital Advisors, and I am currently the director of client service at a wealth management firm in Waltham. I have worked in broker/dealer operations, RIA operations, investment sales, and have been part of investment technology startups.

My teaching style for quantitative subjects (finance, accounting) focuses on learning and understanding the fundamentals of a subject, and how it relates to real-world practices, including the corporate world and one's own personal financial management.

I have worked with young adults both as a mentor and as a tutor. I have mentored students in Acton (MA) and Little Rock (AR) through Big Brothers, and also through The John Andrew Mazie Memorial Foundation (Framingham Mass High School). I worked as a tutor with One with One in Boston, which matches adults with students from other countries. I worked with a young man from India who was new to the U.S. and was starting college.

I am energetic and enjoy seeing students succeed and achieve their goals.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Accounting

I have experience with tutoring in all financial accounting, corporate finance and investment accounting concepts - both in theory and in real-life applications. Finance and accounting courses were taken both at the undergrad (Providence College) and graduate school levels (Northeastern).

Career Development

I have extensive experience working with professionals and college seniors with career development, resumes, networking, and the job interview process. I focus on those interested in pursuing a career in Financial Services, leveraging my experience in advisory services, investment management, investment technology and brokerage operations.

I have 15+ years' experience within investment firms, recruiting, training and developing young professionals, helping them to define their personal and professional objectives and achieve their goals.

I also have 3 years of experience consulting with individuals and entrepreneurs with career development issues, examining their goals and interests, developing resumes or business plans.

Finance

I have more than 20 years of experience in the securities industry across trading, operations, advisory services, capital markets and private investments.

Series 63

Licensed FINRA Series 65 currently. Previously held the Series 7, 24 (General Securities Principal) and 4 (Options Principal securities licenses).

Series 7

I am currently FINRA Series 65 licensed, as well as being previously Series 7, 24 (General Securities Principal), and 4 (Options Principal) licensed. I have worked in B/D operations and RIA operations, and have managed securities trading for different firms. My approach is to concentrate on concepts the student needs the most help with, and use multiple learning resources other than the study manual to ensure success.
