Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I've tutored Algebra both privately and with the Community Charter School of Cambridge.

Ever since the age of 12, I've been fascinated by chemistry. In high school, I couldn't get enough of it. When the opportunity came to study at Harvard in the summer after my junior year, I independently prepared for the AP exam and went on to take organic chemistry I and II. I majored in chemistry at Boston University, and worked in organic, inorganic, and materials labs. During my college years, I also grew a fondness for tutoring. I continued to tutor privately after graduation, and now have more than six years' experience.

My major was chemistry; I took two semesters of physics, three semesters of math, three semesters of physical chemistry, two semesters of general chemistry, four semesters of organic chemistry, and one semester of biochemistry. So for any math, chemistry, biochemistry and physics on the MCAT, I'm qualified to tutor. I also have six years' experience working in journalism as a writer and editor, and I believe that qualifies me for the verbal section.

Regarding general and cell biology, anatomy and the like: These are not my areas of expertise, but MCAT students are often better versed in these areas and need more help with the physical sciences. I know this because I've found students on my own in the past who have asked for MCAT help in the physical sciences, and our sessions went just fine.

One option perhaps is that I can clearly state in my WyzAnt profile that I will be able to help specifically in science and math, not biology. I just would like to be able to contact students who ask for MCAT help, specifically in science (see Saba, from zip code 02125, who posted on 2/23). Thanks for your consideration.

Organic Chemistry

I earned a B.A. in Chemistry from Boston University, having taken 4 semesters of undergraduate and graduate-level Organic Chemistry.

Very patient, knowledgeable, and flexible. Incredible tutor — Clark helped me so much with my organic and biochemistry class. As a student at Boston University, I was worried that I wouldn't be able to find a tutor that had the extensive knowledge needed to help explain the concepts to me that I wasn't understanding. However, Clark was able to answer all of my questions and more. He was very knowledgeable, professional, and dedicated to helping me in whateve ...
