In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Orton-Gillingham is specifically designed to work with students who are diagnosed with specific learning disability (SLD) and dyslexia.
I have Orton-Gillingham active certification from the Massachusetts Hospital Reading Disabilities Unit. This program consisted of a thorough (300 plus hours) practicum and lecture series culminating in my 1997 certification. I currently work with students who have reading disabilities (including dyslexia) as a component of their IEPs.
I hold an active MA teaching certification for K-8th grade.
I hold a Massachusetts General Hospital certification in the Orton-Gillingham phonetic multisensory reading approach. Using this approach I have had many years of successful results helping students achieve their reading goals.
