I am interested in being your child's tutor. For the past four years, I have enjoyed teaching second grade in the Wellesley Public School district and tutoring students in reading and mathematics. Recently, I relocated to Belchertown and I am looking to begin tutoring in this area.
My greatest strengths as an educator are motivating students and holding my students accountable for their academic success. Particularly in reading, I have implemented reading lessons focusing on fluency, accuracy, comprehension and vocabulary. Each tutoring session, I start with students doing a familiar read while I assess their reading using a running record. I instruct my students to use meaning, structure, and visual cues to develop their reading strategies.
Year after year, all of my students have made great advances in reading by setting achievable goals with the student and sharing their results visually and orally with them. I have also helped students discover that they can be successful at reading by matching them with good fit books. In math, I work with students to use strategies based on what they are doing in the classroom. I create learning progression charts so students can see how their learning and thinking continues to grow.
While working with students, I am able to find where glitches are in their basic math thinking. I am then able to build in these areas to help students be successful in larger math concepts.
As a person committed to learning, I am confident my energy and enthusiasm will be helpful in tutoring your child. I would like the opportunity to present my credentials and to discuss how I can enhance your child's learning. Thank you for your consideration.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
