I have specialized in math for years but am very capable in many subject areas to assist with writing, studying, and homework. I've done direct teaching in courses of Pre-algebra, Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Statistics, English (all 4 grades), Biology, and History.

I enjoy working 1 to 1 with students so I can get to know them faster and meet their needs. I have experience with students with Aspergers Syndrome (Autism Spectrum), Dyslexia, and of course, ADD/ ADHD to name a few.

I have been MCAS Specialist for the State and can assist with preparation for the exams. I am also skilled with putting together portfolios for the students that cannot take the paper and pencil MCAS exam and require an alternate form of evaluation for their diploma (competency) or those that are below grade level and are submitting a portfolio to show that they are meeting the criteria for the standards of learning.

Study Skills

As a Special Education teacher, I have worked with many students on their goals to maintain organization and to develop their study skills. I have a text book that has many appropriate and useful lessons for any age or type of student to see how all people will need these skills for life. Quick, easy methods are helpful for students that have attention deficit or little interest in school/ perhaps more of a social interest. :) Memory devices and organizers are most helpful for turning the large projects into smaller, simpler tasks. Everything becomes doable and less stressful!

Special Needs

ADHD,

ADHD

I am a certified special education teacher. I have experience with ADD/ADHD students, Aspberger's/ spectrum Disorder students and mild to moderate disabilities. ADD/ADHD students require a lot of patience and monitoring to keep them on task. They need assistance with organization and methods to keep themselves organized. Often these students miss important information in class as they have a classic tendency to hear only the first and last things said. Tutoring will provide the missing information to fill in those educational gaps.

Helpful

Theresa did a great job helping my son purge and organize his binders, making it easier for him to find assignments.

Kind, engaging, skilled tutor

I would highly recommend Theresa as a math tutor. She has helped my daughter to understand new concepts in both Algebra 1 and Geometry. She brought significant clarity to subjects and my daughter greatly enjoyed working with her. She has been exceptionally helpful in transitioning to public school, offering guidance as to testing, pace of study and curriculum merits. My daughter also made progress with focus and the ability to sustain independent work thanks to her time with Theresa. We found her to go above and beyond what we asked, and were impressed by how committed she is to her tutoring students.
