My name is Lesley and I have a PhD in Molecular Biology from Umass Amherst. I know how hard science can be to learn and I want to help you not only understand it but love it! I was also trained at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD where I was a scientist, teacher and mentor. I have been working in science since I was 17 and have trained many young students to enter medicine or research. I would love to help any one from grammar school to graduate school.

I was looking for someone who had the expertise and availability to tutor my daughter in a 400-level college course in Eucaryotic Cell Biology, a highly specialized subject. This proved to be more difficult that I originally thought until I found Lesley M. Lesley far exceeded my expectations with not only her extensive academic knowledge but her outstanding teaching skills. She related well to my daughter, answering her questions and working with her to maximize her study time. Lesley clearly identified problems in my daughter's study habits while preparing for a major exam. Lesley is very accessible, by email, telephone or in person, always available to meet as often as we liked. Above all else, she restored my daughter's confidence in her skills and abilities, allowing her to earn a 95 on the exam and an A in the class. I was VERY impressed by Lesley and you will not be disappointed!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

During my PhD thesis I was trying to understand the genetic differences between two strains of mice and why one got breast tumors and the other did not. We used microarray technology at this time to determine differences in gene expression between the animals. I have continued this work at NIH working on sequencing projects at the whole genome, exome and splicing levels.
During my time at many different companies and at NIH a grasp on Outlook has become essential. We have to set up all our group meetings and teleconferences using Outlook, as well as group calendars that we have for shared equipment. Attaching documents and sharing data among scientists from all over the world also requires knowledge of how to work with large documents in Outlook as well.
Having tutored for over 5 years I have extensive knowledge with the skills needed to learn materials and pass exams. Each student is different so you have to understand their learning style first to help them succeed. In the past few years I have helped numerous students at all different ages pass classes that they were having trouble with just because they did now know how to study.
