Anna Maria (Speech and Language)
Worcester State Unniversity (Master's)
I am new to WYzAnt but I am not new to teaching. I have worked in the public school system for over 30 years. I have a very unique background, in that, I am a Speech and Language Pathologist who specializes in teaching listening and reading comprehension. I specialize in working with the elementary school students but my skills can help any age group. I have several years experience with middle school and high school students.
I love working with students who want to learn. Students who lack self-confidence are my specialty. I am very knowledgable about the IEP process and have been known to advocate strongly for students and parents.
While I was a SLP in the pubic schools I had a unique opportunity to track my elementary students all the way to high school. I found that many of my students needed reading comprehension help in the later years. To prevent this, I worked with reading specialists to develop a reading based therapy that combined visualization therapy with language and reading comprehension strategies. The combination has proven to be very successful.
With over thirty years experience in special education as well as a bachelor's and a master's degree in the field, I have a broad knowledge base of many different disabilities. In addition to special education I have also worked with ELL students. I am also skilled at articulation therapy.
If you or your child needs help with reading comprehension or any other speech and language needs, I urge you to contact me. I am willing to service via computer or in person depending on your needs. I can be very flexible with time and place. Looking forward to hearing from you. I am new to WYzAnt but I am not new to teaching. I have worked in the public school system for over 30 years. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am licensed by the state as a speech/language / hearing teacher. I have 35 years experience as a Speech and Language Pathologist. I understand the language of an IEP and can act as as a parent adviser/ advocate.
