I am an Adult Education professional with experience in teaching, training, and student assessment. I have strong evaluation skills with the ability to address adult learner needs and provide students with academic instruction, guidance and individual tutoring support.

Academic education includes TESOL, Library Science, and Anthropology. I have years of experience instructing ESOL students of all proficiency levels and currently teach a conversation/pronunciation class of beginner and intermediate English language learners. I am also very familiar with standardized tests such as HiSET (formerly GED in Massachusetts) and TOEFL.

My teaching method always starts with the student. Their goal/goals are what matter first and foremost. My job is to find the best way to help them reach their goal. By the same token, their success is dependent on how motivated they are. I expect students to go beyond just doing homework. If they are learning English, I expect them to live with the language every day. If they are trying to pass an exam or improve their grades, I expect them to make it a priority in their lives to do so.

Teaching is more than just providing explanations and assigning homework. What it is really about is making people become independent thinkers who can take care of themselves, their families, and their communities.

Vocabulary

Vocabulary

Teaching vocabulary is a skill. Understanding the different tiers of vocabulary and helping students master words with multiple meanings is the greatest challenge in teaching this subject. If done well, the student's communication skills can increase dramatically in a relatively short period of time. Using words in context and encouraging constant reading is a must.
