Hi! I am a highly experienced and highly qualified ESOL teacher, with a Masters in Applied Linguistics and licensed to teach grades 5-12. I've taught English to adults and children all over the world - so I have first-hand experience with many different cultures. I also know how hard it is to adjust to life in the U.S. as an immigrant!
I've also taught in a wide range of contexts - corporate, colleges, privately, and in schools all over the South Shore area. I gained valuable experience teaching mainstream high school ELA classes two years ago, which helps me understand exactly what skills an immigrant student needs to master in order to succeed in American schools.
My students always love working with me - I am passionate, creative and very dedicated, and I've never had a student yet (in 15+ years!!!) that has wished to skip a lesson with me! I am proud of the results I achieve with my students - because they are so excited about the lessons, they make wonderful progress. I even managed to teach a boy to read who was repeating kindergarten and was scheduled for special needs evaluation. His teacher had thought he would never learn to read, since in two years he still had trouble writing his name, but after a few months with me, he read his first book! I will never forget the look of pride on his face, as he got to put his name on the reading ladder for the first time.
I have worked with the most reluctant of learners, with all manner of issues, and always been able to help them resolve their barriers to learning and help them succeed educationally.
I look forward to working with you! Hi! I am a highly experienced and highly qualified ESOL teacher, with a Masters in Applied Linguistics and licensed to teach grades 5-12. Our boys loved their first lesson with Sophia. She jumped right in and made learning fun for them by creatively engaging them in each topic. This is not easy considering there is a three year age difference between our sons. She was extremely professional, managed to get many topics in during a short 90 minute lesson, and our kids have not stopped talking about it and are looking forward to the next class.
Read various books that were appropriate for my daughters grade level. Ms. R's ability to pin point my daughter's strengths and weaknesses is impressive. Ms. R. is very patient and has a wonderful rapport with my daughter. She is Awesome!

Sophia is a great teacher who has many good qualities as an English teacher. It is great that her friendly and comfortable manner in teaching and helping me to improve my writing skills. She is very cheerful to be with and always ready to inform me of further knowledge of English. I hope that many others will get benefit from her gifts as she is a good English teacher like I do from her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
