About Sarah

Dear potential future students,

I have a degree in Elementary Education, specifically Elementary Math. I am familiar with and have taught to Common Core standards in Math and English subjects. My passion is making sure students have a strong base in these subjects so they are confident in their skills as they move up in school.

I have a lifelong desire to learn, in many different subjects. I love fostering the same passion in the students I work with. My favorite thing about working with students is seeing something "click", that moment when they say "oh, I got it!"

My degree concentration is in Elementary Math. Common Core requirements are very different from how math was taught when I was in school, so in working on my degree I had to re-learn many skills I previously thought I had. In doing so, I learned the best ways to explain the lessons in order for them to be clearly understood by students of many different levels.

I have a deep love of English. I excelled in my English classes and while my concentration was Math, I always loved teaching and taking English courses. I have extensive theater and public speaking training as well, so whether it's preparing a speech or reciting a monologue, I can help with the process.

K-6 is a time of development in a child's brain, and this is a time when good learning habits can be most effectively developed. This time is critical to a student's future success, and I work to foster a confidence and enjoyment in learning that will last.

Before I discovered teaching, my major was in Criminal Justice, and I am working on returning to school to pursue this interest. I have a background in criminology, forensics, criminal law, and abnormal psychology. I have interned and observed in the court system, and I have done extensive self-study over the years in this field.

Please contact me to learn more! I am open to working with students of all ages.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
