I am currently pursuing my Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from NYU-Poly, but spend most of my free time either inside reading or outside gardening and running. When I am not busy with school or leisure, I will be helping you or your child grasp a difficult subject or improve a test score. I encourage my students to talk me through their thought process when tackling a problem, so that I can pinpoint exactly what is preventing them from arriving at the right solution. While getting the right answer is important in life, and especially on tests, my time at MIT and NYU Poly has taught me that fostering the analytical thinking skills required to arrive at the answer yourself are much more valuable life skills. On account of my background in engineering and the life sciences, my areas of expertise run the gamut from math subjects such as algebra or calculus, sciences such as physics and genetics, and standardized tests such as the ACT and SAT I/II.

Calculus,

Calculus

Majoring in some type of engineering at a rigorous tech school means mastering single and multivariable calculus at a much higher level than a standard college or AP course. While mastering the specifics is important, I have found many teachers are often unable to convey the important underlying concepts. Understanding these concepts is important, and most of the time makes the tedious calculations much easier to see and understand. I have experience tutoring both AP Calculus courses (AB/BC), and experience tutoring single and multivariable for general programs as well as more challenging engineering programs.
Physics,

Physics

Completing an engineering degree at a rigorous tech school means taking courses in mechanics, E&M, and optics/thermo much more rigorous than the average university or AP class. While that may provide some assurances on my subject knowledge, it does not indicate how good I am at getting through to students on a conceptual level. I have always had a passion for teaching, and I have tutored for both regents and AP physics, in addition to unofficially helping undergrads with their physics courses while at NYU-Poly.

Great tutor!

He is very informative and knowledgeable. He understands what my daughter needs, gives clear instruction. Most importantly, he is very patient. We were pleased by the quality of his teaching method.

Keiko, 10 lessons with Matthew

Knowledgeable, patient, prepares for the lesson beforehand.

Matthew is extremely knowledgeable, pays a lot of attention to what areas need to be covered. Goes an extra mile to be prepared for the session. And gives an outline before and after each lesson on the areas to concentrate on. Matthew has a positive attitude and anyone can benefit from such a great tutor.

Knowledgeable patient and a great teacher.

He was very helpful and made sure that my son really understood the problems. My son is taking AP calculus online and Matthew really helped everything to click in his head. He was patient and helped my son a great deal.

Stacey, 3 lessons with Matthew

Extremely knowledgeable and patient tutor.

Matt tutors my son for the Math section of the SAT. Kevin has gone from having A 490 to a 590 on the practice tests so far. Matt is very patient and explains the material in a way that my son understands and builds on concepts without overloading material. We've had math tutors for years, and I can honestly say that Matt is the best one Kevin has had. We highly recommend Matt.

Great Tutor!!

I'm very pleased with Matt. He is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He's quick to pinpoint what my son is struggling with and patiently explains to him the subject matter. He makes the lessons easy to understand. He is helping my son with Algebra 2/Trig at the moment. Sometimes my son would ask him Chemistry questions, which he could answer and explain at ease. He's also very pleasant to work with. I will definitely ask Matt to come back next school year if my son ever need help in Precalculus or Physics.

Great Tutor

Matthew C. is still tutoring me for SAT Prep and I couldn't be happier. He is very flexible with his hours and very patient. He also has tricks and tips to help out any student with his or her needs.

Mehmet, 7 lessons with Matthew

Informative

Very informative and laid out information so it was easy to grasp. He knew all of the concepts and was able to plan about several ways where you could answer a question and was able to explain each premise conceptually.
