Hi there, I'm Cielo! I graduated with honors with a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, and a minor in Environmental Studies. Currently, I am a Ph.D. student at UMass Amherst studying Environmental Engineering. During my time in college, the most frustrating thing to me was studying a subject so thoroughly and still not understanding it. What truly helped me was the assistance of a tutor, who helped me develop study methods that finally allowed me to understand. This tutor taught me how to study not just for a test, but so that I could use this information during the rest of my academic career. I have since used this method for tutoring students I have since taught. I create a comprehensive plan for each student that integrates their unique learning style along with their passions, strengths, and interests. Each session is structured so that by the end, a student has a deeper foundational knowledge that they can utilize for years to come.

I have over 8 years of tutoring experience with hundreds of students in the Worcester Public Schools district, in Central Massachusetts. During my time with WPS, I have worked with students aging from 12 years old to 28 years old. I have worked directly with students who desire individualized lessons, and I have also worked with larger student groups of 20-30 for workshops or crash-courses. I have also worked with study groups between 4-8 students, where we have followed the structure of their current courses. In the collegiate setting, I have experience creating long-term coursework management plans to ensure success for students who wish to go to medical school, graduate school, or veterinary school. These are students whom I have found a passion for working with: seeing a long-term goal come true after so many hours of hard work is delightful. I have also been a teaching assistant for several classes including psychology, biology, biochemistry, chemistry, biotechnology, and calculus.

I love working with students because it is equally as rewarding to me to see students reach the Aha! moment when they finally understand. You do not need to be naturally "good" at a subject to do well. All you need is practice, patience, and some curiosity. My favorite part about working with students is being able to inspire passion and joy into learning, and fostering life-long skills that will benefit them far after the tutoring session is done. I am always happy to discuss education and STEM with any student or parent interested. I am easily reachable and will respond as soon as possible. Please, feel free to reach out to me with additional questions or to schedule a tutoring session!
