About Kyle

I have just graduated from Amherst College with a major in mathematics and will be entering graduate school to begin a PhD next fall. I am a patient, warm, and enthusiastic teacher and I enjoy helping others apprehend new ideas in a holistic, intuitive, and rigorous way.

There are usually many ways of understanding a single idea, and being able to move between several of them deepens understanding. My previous professional experience includes tutoring calculus and grading for advanced undergraduate mathematics courses; I have also provided informal tutoring to many friends on a variety of subjects. I am a very successful standardized test taker (2350/2400 on the SAT and 338/340 on the GRE), and can offer tutoring that not only helps with mastery of the content of a given test, but teaches the specialized reasoning necessary to succeed on standardized tests generally.

I have enjoyed learning math from a young age, taught myself high school mathematics while in elementary school, and took college calculus classes while in middle school. As a passionate autodidact, I have a strong sense of the sorts of learning strategies that promote rigorous, intuitive comprehension.

At present, I have a very flexible schedule, and am willing to travel at your convenience. If you're interested in learning more about me or would like to schedule a tutoring session, send me a message!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Calculus

I studied calculus I (differential), II (integral), and III (multivariable) at Hood College while I was in middle school (2006 through 2007). I have experience tutoring single variable differential and integral calculus to college students, beginning when I was in high school. I majored in mathematics at Amherst College and will begin a PhD in mathematics next fall.

Geometry

I recently graduated from Amherst College with a major in mathematics and will begin a PhD in the fall. I have experience working as a grader for a non-Euclidean geometry course and a point-set topology course.

GRE

Received a perfect score on the SAT reading section and the GRE verbal section.

Precalculus

I took the calculus sequence (differential, integral, and multivariate) at Hood College while in middle school. At Amherst College, I majored in mathematics, and I have been accepted into Brown's (among others) mathematics PhD program.

SAT Math

I received 780/800 on the SAT math section and 168/170 on the GRE math section, missing one problem on each test. I majored in mathematics at Amherst College and will begin a PhD in mathematics next fall.

SAT Reading

I received perfect scores on bot the SAT reading section and the GRE verbal section. I am a skillful writer and as well as a skillful test taker, and I can offer my students help with test-taking skills as well as help honing their reading abilities.
