About Christine

Hi! I'm going to be a senior at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and am working towards dual degrees in Chemical Engineering (with a concentration in Biochemical Engineering) and Biochemistry. I have TA'd engineering classes and have previously tutored high school math. I enjoy teaching and find that explaining difficult math and science concepts can be done fairly simply. Whether you're a motivated student who needs some additional help with concepts or someone who wants to get ahead in classwork, I think we would be a good fit.

As far as my math qualifications go, I achieved the highest possible scores on the SAT Math subsection, the SAT Math 2 subject test, and the Calculus AP exam. Additionally, I have taken the engineering-level maths courses of Calculus, Calculus II, Differential Equations, and Multivariable Calculus.

Chemical Engineering/Biochemistry classes I have taken in college include Chemistry I and II, Bioengineering, Tissue Engineering, Biochemistry, Biomedicine, Organic Chemistry, Math Modeling, Thermodynamics, Fluid Dynamics, Kinetics & Reactor Design, Physical Chemistry, Separations, Heat/Mass Transfer, Genetics.

In English, I achieved the highest possible score on the SAT reading subsection and the English AP exam. Additionally, I have a good grasp of what sorts of grammatical tricks the SAT throws at you and can provide rigorous grammar lessons if desired.

When tutoring, I am adaptable to your (or your student's) learning needs. One thing I have found that works well is to spend some lesson time teaching the material if need be, and a substantial amount of the lesson time working on increasingly difficult practice problems. I believe that the best way to learn is to do, and that the best way to improve is to spend time carefully thinking out challenging problems and "playing" with the problem, if you will.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
