Amherst College (English)
Hi! My name is Kali and I'm from Boston, MA. I currently attend Amherst College and am heading into my senior year at the college. I am an English Major. I enjoy blogging, journaling, writing poetry, and spoken word. I started my journey as a writer early on, reading book after book as a kid. I was a classic Harry Potter series reader, often staying up late into the night to read as much as possible. It wasn't until high school that I began to take writing as a personal hobby. I began to write raps, poetry, and prose in my free time (shoutout to deviantart!). As I entered college and began to decide what I wanted to study, the English major captured my heart after reading and analyzing books in my freshman seminar English course titled Big Books. We read Octavia Butler's Xenogenesis Trilogy, which I loved, along with George Elliot's Middlemarch and Swann's Way by Proust. I tried to study under the Asian Languages and Civilizations major at Amherst College, but come the fall of my junior year it was clear that the English major was the choice for me. I journal regularly, and also blog, and write summaries of articles I read.
As for my experience as a tutor, I have tutored middle school students in English and Math in preparation for standardized testing. I also tutored with the Connections Program in Amherst and Holyoke MA. Throughout my academic life I have also served my friends and family when they needed help understanding difficult concepts, editing writing, or learning something new.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
