I have a love of learning and a passion for teaching! I hold a B.S. in biology and have completed extensive coursework in chemistry and physics as well. I have a love of learning and a passion for teaching! I hold a B.S. in biology and have completed extensive coursework in chemistry and physics as well. I scored in the top 5% in the math section of the SAT and the GRE, and the top 10% in the verbal section of those tests. Of course, intelligence alone does not a good teacher make. I am a firm believer that any subject can be accessible and interesting if it is properly explained. I have found that the teachers who best facilitate learning are the ones that break down complex concepts and make them relatable. I l believe that "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough." Many people find high school and college math complicated and far from intuitive. I break down the hard problems into easier ones. I find common ground with a student, and give them reasons to be interested in the material they are learning. I help you or your child to improve grades, boost confidence, and gain mastery in the subject of interest.

I'm currently a graduate student at Umass Amherst working on my Master's in Education. I am learning new teaching methods, theories of learning, and mentoring strategies. I will be teaching biology and chemistry at the high school level upon graduation. I have passed the state tests for both biology and chemistry teachers.

I can meet you at a location of your choice, customize my lessons to your needs, and guarantee reliability and flexibility. I have worked with dozens of students of all ages and look forward to working with you too!

My son is already looking for more time to get more help from Douglas. As my son told me, Douglas was working with him where he asked for. Hope it will be like that next class and I will make sure to share it. Thanks.

Knowledgeable and patient

Doug is patient and explains difficult concepts simply and in a way that makes sense. I have been struggling with understanding conversions using units of measurement. At the end of our session I felt that I was well on my way to grasping these concepts in a more concise manner. I appreciate being able to work with Doug and would recommend him.
