Bio

As a former International Teacher, a current Admissions Advisor, and a tutor for over a decade, I have had the pleasure of working with many different students, each with their own unique style of learning and communicating. My specialties are: College Prep/Advising, SAT, TOEFL, Math (levels up to and including Pre-Calculus), ESL, Reading, English, Language Arts, and all Elementary subjects (including but not limited to: Science, History, and Social Studies). As a former International Teacher, a current Admissions Advisor, and a tutor for over a decade, I have had the pleasure of working with many different students, each with their own unique style of learning and communicating. My specialties are: College Prep/Advising, SAT, TOEFL, Math (levels up to and including Pre-Calculus), ESL, Reading, English, Language Arts, and all Elementary subjects (including but not limited to: Science, History, and Social Studies). Because I have a special relationship with students who are on the spectrum, several of the students I tutor have had Asperger's, Autism, or ADD/ADHD. In addition, I was the primary caretaker for an autistic child for a year.

On average, my students have increased their SAT Math scores by 120 points.

I lived and worked in China for about four years, so I also have general knowledge related to the language in speaking and pinyin.

My work with behavioral and special needs students began at a young age, and I have continuously kept track of progress in research and understanding of students with special needs. In addition, I feel my experiences working with special needs students has taught me how to understand and appropriately foster to my students' needs.

While I was a teacher, my school incorporated "Handwriting" as a portion of our curriculum b/c we were in an International School in China. Therefore, I had to learn appropriate techniques (with the help of school provided coursebooks) to help my students learn how to write neatly. In addition, I have tutored students in reading, writing, and ELA, which in some cases, led to me assisting them with handwriting because several of my younger students (K-2) really needed help with it, esp those with motor dysfunctions/delays. While in China for four years, I spent several of those years tutoring students in phonics. I worked in large groups and in one-on-one tutoring sessions. The students I worked with one-on-one continued to work with me until I returned to America because of our success. My focus was to improve sight and sound recognition, which enabled my student's spelling, speaking, and reading abilities to improve. In addition, I have done extensive research to find what phonics books work best for all levels of students; therefore, I am able to recommend appropriate study materials. As a teacher, I had 2 students who were diagnosed with ADD/ADHD that I taught for the academic school year. In addition, I have tutored 3 children with ADD/ADHD over the past few years. All improved grades. I also studied and have undergone counseling for ADD/ADHD.

Within my career, I was a caregiver for an autistic child, and I provided counseling for her cognitive and reasoning skills.
