About Darius

Guiding others to new knowledge, philosophy and skills gives me joy! Being an African-American male, I am specifically interested in helping underrepresented/minority students reach greater potential in higher education via the development of a strong knowledge base and skill sets at an early age. My fulfillment from teaching lies not only in strengthening the abilities of students, but in my ability to grow as an instructor from working with such a diverse group dependent on race, age, gender, education level and socioeconomic status.

I have tutored officially and unofficially for 5 years. The areas I am most proficient in are Spanish, Math (Basic Elementary Functions, Algebra, Geometry, Basic Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus), Statistics (Probability, Estimation, Hypothesis Testing, Non-Parametric Statistics and Hierarchical Modeling), Database Creation, Data Management and Analysis using Excel, SAS, SPSS, R and Minitab. I like to make sure that the student is getting the most out of our tutoring session. It is important for me to know what specific material the student is struggling with so I am well prepared for our tutoring session. It is my desire to not only work through homework problems but for the student to actually understand the material. Therefore a challenging environment is usually my aim, this may include additional homework problems and assessments.

I am happy to meet at any location that is conducive to the learning experience of the student. Please if you cannot make a tutoring session, I would prefer to know at least the night before though I do understand that things come up so informing me 2 hours before the session at the latest is understandable. I do take corrective criticism. If you feel that my teaching strategies are not effective feel free to inform me. I also understand if you are not satisfied that payment may not be received.

I look forward to meeting, teaching and helping you reach your goals in what ever endeavor!

Approved subjects
