About Sam

Hello! My name is Sam and I am a current graduate student at Boston College. I have tutoring experience with students in the Brighton-Allston area through a volunteer program at BC. My experience has primarily been in Math and English (see more below).

I grew up in Wellesley and was privileged to attend Tenacre Country Day School and, later, St. Sebastian's School in Needham. My passion for teaching and tutoring is a direct result of having inspiring and dedicated teachers myself. I hold a Bachelor's in Economics, similarly from BC, and will be graduating in May with a Master's in Educational Policy.

From my volunteer experience, I have primarily taught elementary and middle school math as well as English for non-native speakers. However, I am very comfortable with all math up to and including precalculus. When I was a kid, math was my favorite subject! I also love the process and craft of reading and writing, and will be more than happy to help students seeking improvement in this capacity. In English, it is essential that the student utilize careful reading and constantly practice re-writing. Many books can be complicated and nuanced, and being patient with both the reading and writing process is how a student succeeds in this subject.

My favorite aspect of tutoring is when things "click" with the student. Understanding core concepts, especially in math, is important to problem-solving abilities and the use of critical thinking. This is done through clear explanation and various examples (practice makes perfect!).

Due to my schoolwork and second part-time job, I will be available Monday through Wednesday starting at 8pm, as well as Thursdays and Fridays from 11am-6pm. My rate is $45/hour, yet I am happy to give a free consultation to talk more and provide a detailed lesson plan.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success in your studies!
