About Jack

Math and physics are hard--that's why I'm here to help you survive and thrive! If you struggle with equations, get lost in word problems, or can't grasp the core concepts, don't worry: you aren't alone!

As a physics graduate with 3 years of experience in tutoring, I am knowledgeable in several areas of study, including electromagnetism, mechanics, introductory atomic and quantum physics, optics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, condensed matter, and oscillations/waves. My strong suit is in topics high school subjects and college-level courses, but I am flexible with age and courses. I have an overarching understanding of mathematics, particularly those topics utilized in applied sciences. This includes geometry, algebra, trigonometry, linear algebra, precalculus, calculus, and differential equations.

Much of my tutoring background involves standardized test preparation. If you are pursuing a postsecondary degree and are required to take the ACT, SAT, GRE, or other exams, I am well prepared to discuss studying strategies and test-taking skills. My experience encompasses not only math and science elements of these exams, but also grammar comprehension, open-ended response strategies, and reading analysis.

My goal as a tutor is to instill an appreciation for self-learning in students. Most learning is done on one's own; some students have trouble learning or memorizing, or the standard techniques of learning are to them. Regardless, my goal is to not only elevate a student's grade but also to grow their self-confidence, so that they gain a passion for learning.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have one and a half years of experience tutoring middle school and high school levels. I also have a physics B.A. which requires a mastery of high school and college math.

Calculus

I have a Physics B.A., and three years of experience tutoring courses which involve mathematics from algebra and trigonometry to high level calculus and linear algebra.

Linear Algebra

As a college graduate with a physics degree, I am well-versed in the theories and applications of linear algebra. Topics I have regularly seen and utilized include matrices and determinants, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, change of basis, and orthogonality conditions. I like to think of linear algebra as an extremely generalized mathematical description of space, with a broad range of specific and useful applications in science and engineering.
