Oberlin Conservatory (BM in Violin Performance)
The Boston Conservatory (Master's)
I started my music education from a very early age. Throughout my childhood, I was an active performer in my home country Bulgaria, and won numerous awards from local and international competitions. By the time I was in middle school, I had already decided to pursue music for a career. At 15, I left home to study at Idyllwild Arts Academy where I continued to train in music intensely. In 2015, I completed a Bachelor in Music degree in Violin Performance from Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio. Currently, I am pursuing a Master in Music degree in Violin Performance at The Boston Conservatory, working with some of the most renowned faculty and musicians in the Boston area.
During my years of training, I have gained invaluable experience in solo, chamber music and orchestra music. Amongst my biggest achievements are winning the Idyllwild Arts Academy Concerto Competition in 2009 and the Eastern Music Festival's award for Orchestral Excellence in 2010, performing in New York's Carnegie Hall as part of the Oberlin Orchestra in 2013, performing in the Oberlin's Winter Term Intensive Chamber Music Festival alongside the Jupiter Quartet in 2014, as well as holding concertmaster and principal second positions at the Idyllwild Arts Academy Orchestra, the Eastern Music Festival Orchestras, and the Round Top Music Festival Orchestra. Additionally in 2015, I was awarded Marrowstone's Music Festival String Fellowship Award.
As an addition to being a vivid performer, I am also an experienced music pedagog. My rich musical background has allowed me to apply my skills in teaching all levels of violin playing- from beginner to advanced. My passion for the instrument drives me to share it with my surroundings and help my students to love it. I have been teaching private lessons since 2012, and currently I have a private studio in Boston. Whether you are a beginner, an intermediate or an advanced student, I can provide the fundamentals and the technique necessary to play the instrument, as well as challenge you to find your own unique way of expressing through music and have fun in the process! I believe that every individual is special, and that music is a powerful way of communicating that. I am looking forward to meeting each and every one of you and working with you!

NOTE: I teach classical violin only. My teaching techniques heavily emphasize on (but are not limited to) relaxation of the body for better control of violin technique, understanding fundamentals, improving technical proficiency, paying attention to detail, and others. These help making practicing efficient. I started my music education from a very early age. My two daughters have just started taking lessons with Dorisiya. They are 7 and 11 years old. Dorisiya has been a very patient and thorough teacher. My older daugther has mentioned how good she is and feels that she is very detailed and very supportive. She goes into alot of explanation about how and why of doing things. We are very happy so far. She is also very sweet to my younger daughter. I would strongly recommend her!
Dorisiya is very professional and patient. She can observe my weakness sharply and help me make great improvement in a very short time. From the exercises she gives me, I can sense that I'm getting a systematic training. Moreover, she is very kind and polite, and make me feel really relaxed and motivated in playing violin.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
