Pennsylvania State University (Physics, Math, Phil)
I have tutored physics and math for years at the high school and college level. I specialize in tutoring calculus. I take pride in my students' work. Although I tailor my tutoring to individual learning styles / goals, I would rather have a session where the student understands one new concept rather than getting out a modest understanding of several.
I possess bachelor's degrees in Math, Physics, and Philosophy from Penn State.
I can meet students at their homes, provided it is within biking distance of Allston, MA. I have tutored physics and math for years at the high school and college level. Dan was really patient with me during our session on set theory. I asked what seemed like a million questions and he took them all in stride. He was able to give satisfying answers despite the fact that math is a hard subject for me and I tend to get overwhelmed. Because he was so patient, I was able to have several breakthroughs in my understanding of the subject that I wasn't able to have on my own or even one-on-one with my professor. He met me where I was (which wasn't very far) and I'd definitely recommend him to anyone who has trouble with traditional forms of teaching math.
Dan is an excellent tutor, who is extremely knowledge in Physics and Mathematics. Dan is a very patient and understanding person and lets you dictate the pace you want to learn. He has excellent communication skills in making sure you understand the material, no matter how long it takes.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have tutored several college students over the past 4 years in calculus I-III and calculus-based physics. I like to reinforce the conceptual background behind calculus for students.
I have a degree in mathematics from Penn State, where differential equations was a required course. I received an A in the course, and I have tutored in this subject.
I have completed several courses in discrete math and tutored on the subject. I recall a student who was particularly impressed that I was able to solve a problem after she had taken it to math professors who were unable to do so.
I have taken several variants on this course (lower- and higher-level) and done well in all of them. Although I have not tutored this subject, I did proctor a course on game theory.
I have taken symbolic logic previously in middle school and again in college, where I received excellent grades. I have tutored in this subject.
I am a physics graduate of Penn State and over 4 years I have tutored several students in physics -- basic mechanics and E&M.
