Hi! I'm Brendon, an ESL teacher and tutor with over 5 years' experience teaching in China, Japan, South Korea, and the US. Seeing progress in my students and watching someone's communication skill in another language grow are the main reasons I love teaching. I have a Master's Degree in TESOL (Teaching English as a Second Language), and I also have TESOL certification. I would like to help students learn vocabulary, speaking, and reading so they can become more aware of issues in the world (since many interesting articles are written in English only). If you are looking to prepare for the TOEFL, I have several years of experience preparing students for this test and would love to help you. I also have extensive experience helping students ages 12-24 in a writing center with proofreading essays, helping with organization, and expressing ideas clearly.
I'm also a Mandarin Chinese teacher, I have 5 years of teaching experience, have taught Chinese at the middle-school level in Connecticut, and possess HSK Level 6 proficiency (highest level) in spoken and written Mandarin Chinese. Most importantly, as a native English speaker who has learned Chinese myself, I understand where challenges lie. The grammar is quite simple and similar to English, although the pronunciation is rather difficult for most learners.
My teaching style: I'm flexible and can adjust to students' needs. If you'd like grammar explanations, I'd be happy to do so. If you're more interested in conversation, that's great! I always make sure you'll have a lot of time to speak, and I'll bring pictures, websites, and magazines to help us discuss interesting topics. I'd also love to hear about your culture!
I currently teach English in Chinatown, Boston, and I'm available Friday's, Saturdays, and Sundays and Mondays. My hobbies include running, studying languages, and making music with my mouth (a technique known as "beatboxing").
I look forward to meeting you! Hi! I'm Brendon, an ESL teacher and tutor with over 5 years' experience teaching in China, Japan, South Korea, and the US. Seeing progress in my students and watching someone's communication skill in another language grow are the main

Wonderful , patient and very skilled in teaching. My son gets so much out of his tutoring sessions with Brendon.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
