About Kacie

I've tutored regularly for seven years in all levels of math, english, and science. I also have experience working with study skills in professional setting. In January 2016 to May 2016, I co-taught a college-level study skills course. Along with this, I used to lead an ACT study group where three of the four people went up by four points on their ACT score. Since then, I have had the chance to tutor several people in the ACT that have had their composite score go up by at least two points. I scored a composite of 28 on my own ACT: 33 in English, 26 in Mathematics, 30 in Reading, and a 22 in Science. I now am a college senior in Biology and will graduate May 2018. I can back up any of the above credentials. I've never had a student that seriously wanted to learn and improve that did not with a little help and some explanations provided. As a side note, I generally believe in an award system for middle school and elementary children (such as a candy bowl). Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

My ACT English scores and AP English scores were high enough to completely clep out (not have to take) any English outside of a technical writing course for my degree. All students that I have tutored for the ACT have had their scores rise and I hope to continue this trend.

ACT Math

On my own ACT, I scored a 28 on my math portion. I have professionally tutored several students in all levels of math (including ACT), so am never far behind on what you need to know. All students that have worked with me for the ACT have had their scores rise.

ACT Reading

Personally, I scored a 30 on my own ACT reading. I have previously worked professionally in a college-level setting to improve students reading. I also tutored several students that have improved their scores in this subject area.

Algebra 1

I have tutored about 15 different students in algebra 1 in my tutoring career. Majority of them did not need tutoring for algebra two due to understanding the material. I have also finished college courses in math that require extensive knowledge of algebra one skills and tutored algebra one concepts professionally to college freshman.

College Counseling

From the dates of January 2016 to May 2016, I served as a peer mentor in a freshman success class. This class was dedicated to helping college freshman achieve and do well in college. I often lead this class in the professors absence as per request, and have now gone through a variety of different college situations such as: transferring colleges, switching majors, online classes, and the financial aid/loan processes. I am highly qualified to help with college counseling.

Study Skills

I will be a college senior in biology at the end of the Spring 2017 semester. Study skills is a necessity to passing college. I also have work experience focusing on helping others with their study skills (January 2016-May 2016) as a peer mentor. I have ample knowledge and no I would be of great help to students in this area.

Writing

I have taken several collegiate level writing courses. I have also helped struggling college freshman improve their writing skills as a peer mentor (a student teacher). At this point in my career, I have helped a total of 15+ students better their writing within only a few hour long lessons. If you would like documentation to prove any of the above, please let me know!
