I would like to introduce myself, my name is Marla W. and I am interested in working with your child as a tutor. I have had a vast amount of experience teaching a very diverse group of elementary, middle, and high school students as a certified science teacher. I also worked in several public and private schools in Chicago as a health educator for five years before I became a certified teacher. I have also privately tutored elementary, middle and high school students in various subjects including English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. I also worked as an ACT prep teacher as well. In each of these positions, I created various educational forms and tools to intensify the student’s learning experience. I am very excited about the fact that you are seeking assistance I to further develop your child's skills and helping them realize their full potential. I hope that I am able to have an impact on your child who I believe will eventually venture into various colleges and universities and I can assist them in receiving the resources and skills that they need to compete in the world and become our next leaders.
I received a 30 on the math portion of the ACT, a 32 on the Science portion, and a 30 on the reading portion. I have taken several advanced classes in each of these subjects.
I have also been teaching science for over 11 years and in the past two years have had 100% of my 6th graders in 2015 and 100% of my 7th graders in 2016 receive a advanced or mastery on their state assessment exam for science.
I have taught math, reading, and science in various areas either through summer programs or through the year as a teacher. I have worked with all age groups from preschool to high school and have a dedicated patience for elementary students.
I encourage you to contact me if you are interested. I assure you that I will do my best to make sure that your child will grow. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
