Teaching is something that has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My mother was an educator for 30 years, and I was always helping her create lessons and activities. From a very young age, I knew that I would become a teacher. Upon graduating high school, I attended the University of Mississippi and majored in Elementary Education. During my time there, I maintained a 3.7 GPA while enrolled in the Guyton School of Education. In 2013, I graduated and received my teaching license. After graduating college, I became employed by a School Board as a gifted education teacher. I currently teach 4th, 5th and 6th grade gifted English and Language Arts; however, I am certified to teach kindergarten through 6th grade in all subjects. Last spring, I enrolled in the Southeastern Louisiana University Master in Gifted Education Program and plan to graduate in the spring of 2016. Over the past two years, I have continued my education to better serve my students.
For the past 5 years, I have been tutoring elementary students. I currently tutor struggling students in an after-school program two days a week. After being at school all day, the last thing many students want to do is go to tutoring. To solve this problem, I develop fun, technology-integrated lessons that gain students' interest and keep them involved throughout the lesson. Tutoring students will have access to an iPad with many education apps to aid in the lessons. I look forward to working with students to help them achieve their goals. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I received my degree in elementary education from the University of Mississippi. I have both my Mississippi and Louisiana teaching license. I am highly qualified to all subjects k-6. I am currently working on completing my Master's in Gifted Education.
