About Ben

Bio

Hey, I'm Ben! I graduated summa cum laude from Southern Methodist University in 2019 with a BS in Electrical Engineering and a BA in Chemistry, and I'm currently in my first year of medical school. Throughout college I tutored peers in several STEM subjects, worked as an electrical engineering TA for 1.5 years, and tutored high school students in SAT prep. I've taught in one-on-one, small group, and large class settings. My favorite part of tutoring is seeing that "Aha" moment when students...

Throughout college I tutored peers in several STEM subjects, worked as an electrical engineering TA for 1.5 years, and tutored high school students in SAT prep. I've taught in one-on-one, small group, and large class settings. My favorite part of tutoring is seeing that "Aha" moment when students finally understand a concept that's been confusing them!

My goal is for you to not only master the material, but to develop study habits and learning strategies that work specifically for you. Everyone learns differently, and I'm confident I can adapt to the learning style that suits you best. Whether you just need one session as a refresher on a topic or a long-term tutor, I'd love to help out!

Calculus,

Calculus

The most common complaint I hear about calculus is, "When am I ever going to use this in the real world?" Having worked as an engineer, I've experienced firsthand how useful higher level math can be in the "real world," and I love to share those examples with students. When I tutor calculus, I aim not only to enhance your understanding of the core concepts, but also to explain why it's important and get my students more excited about math!
Chemistry,

Chemistry

I earned a B.A. in Chemistry from Southern Methodist University in May 2019. During my last two years of undergrad, I tutored several peers in both General and Organic Chemistry.

Electrical Engineering

I graduated summa cum laude with a BS in Electrical Engineering from Southern Methodist University. During my undergraduate career, I worked as a TA for Microcontrollers and Engineering Design courses. I've also worked on numerous product development projects, which has given me a perspective on the applications of EE principles. The EE courses I teach most often are: Circuit Analysis/Electronic Circuits, Analog and Digital Signals and Systems, Digital Computer Logic, and Microcontrollers and Embedded Systems.

MCAT

MCAT

After self-prepping for two months, I scored a 525 (132/132/129/132) on the 2018-2019 MCAT and eventually earned a full academic scholarship from the medical school I'm attending. Before taking the MCAT I had never taken a course in biochem, so I decided to teach myself all of the biochem content. I was able to earn perfect scores on both the Bio/Biochem and Chem/Phys sections of the MCAT by sticking to a plan and employing effective study methods. Learning and retaining all of the content for the MCAT can be daunting, but through my own studies I've developed several strategies to help make the load more manageable.

Knowledgeable and Patient Tutor

Very helpful first lesson. Ben explained things really well, so I definitely understand what we were able to cover. However, had a difficult time with scheduling any follow up lessons.
