About Amanda

Bio

Hi! I'm Amanda. I graduated with a BA in Fine Art Education in 2015, I taught elementary/middle art for two years and am currently working on my Master of Education in Education Technology. I would like to teach at the college level once I have that degree. I love art, of course, but also have a passion for math and science. I believe in teaching students to think critically and find answers in a way that they can understand.

Hi!

Aside from being an educator, I am a mother of two humans and three birds. You may see two of my birds in my profile pic. I love animals and wildlife, being outdoors, going on nature walks, and being near any body of water. The break of dawn on a beach is a favorite, but my absolute favorite is the open ocean. I absolutely love going on cruises and am fascinated with ship structure and architecture. That is me in a nutshell. What about you?

Science fascinates me, and everything we do - from moving, to thinking, to speaking, to driving a car - is because of the properties of physical science. I love experimenting and learning new things, especially how things work and why. My younger daughter is just as curious as I am, so we experiment together and watch informational shows such as Mythbusters and Real Acts of Science.

Art is such a large part of history. The history of art coincides with the history of man. Many paintings are of moments in time and are able to tell more about that moment than just the written word. For example, before there was the written word, cave dwellers were able to depict certain moments by drawing what they saw, so thousands of years later we can have some understanding of how life was for them. In more modern times, art has become more of a statement, such as the Dada movement that had people questioning the definition of "art".

I am well-versed in many subjects, some just a little, and some - like those mentioned above - a lot. However, I am always open to learning new information and welcome any resources that parents or students have. I am also quick to respond, so feel free to contact me with any questions or to set up an appointment. Thank you for trusting me to help you or your child succeed!

Along with completing the requirements for a Bachelor of Art in Art Education, I have taken several extra courses in the studio arts. Upon completion of the program and Praxis II, I was awarded a Louisiana State Teacher Certification in K-12 Art, which allowed me to teach visual art, graphic art, art theory, and art history.
