Austin College (History)
As a college graduate, worldwide traveler and former elementary school teacher, I value the importance of lifelong learning above all else. My objective for tutoring your child is to engage and inspire by using creative and exciting methods that encourage them and lead to a pathway of expanded opportunities through education.
I specialize in tutoring history of all grade levels and all subjects of elementary education. As a history major in college, I was afforded the opportunity to study ancient cultures abroad in both Greece and China. Since then, I have also been to Ireland and South Africa. As a result of these experiences, I can help students with understanding and remembering information, study skills, and written responses for all subjects related to history.
As a former elementary school teacher, I appreciate the importance of a child beginning their education on grade level. For students who fall behind, it becomes increasingly difficult to catch up in later years. It is my mission to ensure that my students are prepared for the educational demands that will be placed on them in the future by helping students to comprehend and master math, reading, science and social studies. While teaching, my students typically scored higher on unit and state tests and developed habits that helped them academically and socially in the future.
I love working with children and seeing them become excited about learning. I look forward to working with you as we strive for academic excellence and renewed confidence for your child. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a certified K-6 elementary education teacher in both Louisiana and Mississippi, and I received exemplary scores on all of my Praxis exams. I taught 4th grade in Mississippi for two years with Teach for America after I graduated from Austin College in Sherman, TX. At Austin College, I majored in History and minored in English with an overall GPA of 3.64. I recently moved to Shreveport, and I am looking to continue working in the field of education through tutoring rather than leading a classroom. While teaching, my students scored higher on unit and state tests than other students at the school, as a result of my creative hands on teaching methods. I received glowing responses from parents, students, and administrators in Mississippi, and I am also experienced in working with students to meet the new Common Core standards to prepare them for annual state tests.
