Greetings Parents and Students:
My name is Ivy. My professional background has been Architecture Design, Piping Design and Real Property Evaluation, for the past 20 years. During that time I was the Lead Appraiser and Sole Proprietor of my own Real Estate Appraisal Firm. I am currently a State Certified Appraiser, licensed in Mississippi. (License Number RA874, currently in inactive status) Mathematics is used heavily in architecture, piping design and appraising property.
The past 5 years I have volunteered my services as a tutor in my church. Personally, I am the father of 3 great kids. They are all grown up now but when they were in school I would use my experience to tutor them and help with their math homework. When the opportunity presented itself to become part of WyzAnt Tutoring, and service many more students that need my help, I was thrilled.
I take a unique and innovative approach to tutoring, which helps students connect with the subject matter they need to master. Using personalized and focused teaching processes, my students will develop the tools they need for ongoing success. My success as a tutor depends on giving full attention to the needs of my students, helping them reach their full potential. I don't succeed unless my students succeed.
As part of my unique and innovative approach for helping my students, I have three basic keys to success:
1.) Develop methods to approach the subject matter in a way which help students wrap their minds around challenging concepts.
2.) Listen to the students’ needs and/or frustrations and diagnose where their understanding of concepts breaks down.
3.) Study strategies to effectively prepare students for long-term success.
My students would describe me as soft spoken, personable and very patient. I believe in the educational process and will not giving up on a student. Every student is unique and learns in their own way.
The specific subjects I specialize in are as follows:
Elementary: Whole Numbers - Basic Addition Facts, Basic Subtractions, Basic Multiplication Fact, Basic Division Facts, Estimating Products and Quotient.
Fractions - Adding, Subtraction, Multiplying and Dividing.
Decimals - The Meaning of Decimals, Fraction and Decimals Equivalents, Rounding Decimals, Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying and Dividing Decimals.
Percent - The meaning of Percent. Measurement and Formulas and Simple Equations.
High School: Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry and Data Analysis & Probability.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
