About Lia

Bio

My name is Lia D. and I tutor Language Arts and Study Skills.

As a child, I faced some challenges with speech and learning disabilities due to epilepsy. Thanks to my parents' encouragement and my hard work, I moved past that and became a better student. Even though I still stutter, it is more controlled. My love of teaching was inspired my parents, tutor, and my love of helping others. I also credit those teachers who never lost faith in me when I asked for their help.

When I was at Centenary College of Louisiana, I tutored through a volunteer program called CLEAR. The full name was the Center for Learning Enhancement and Research. One of the children I tutored had ADHD, so I quickly learned to guide him through his work by answering his questions as necessary. Unfortunately, we were only allowed one semester to tutor any given student. The next semester I tutored a different student that just needed a little push in the right direction.

Handwriting

Handwriting was part of the language arts curriculum where I completed student teaching while attending Centenary College of Louisiana. During my college years, I tutored a few elementary students through volunteer program. As we worked together on various assignments, I made sure their handwriting was legible to encourage pride in the work turned in as well as having a good work ethic.
