McGill University (English Literature)
I'm a freelance writer living in New Orleans, and I've worked for years with kids at a wilderness canoe tripping camp; I know how to work with kids of all ages in a variety of situations. I studied English Literature and History at McGill University, Canada's most prestigious university, graduating with a 3.45 GPA taking high level seminars. At the end of my time there, I received a prize for an essay on Canadian literature. I also worked as an editor at a school newspaper, which honed my skills in proofreading and improving other's writing.
I love working with students and helping people think, and write, about literature and history in new and exciting ways, and hope to share that with more students.
In high school, I received 5s on both the AP English tests, an 800 on the Critical Reading section of the SAT. I studied Literature at McGill University for four years, and upon graduation won the Kay MacIver Memorial Prize, given to the best undergraduate essay on Canadian Literature. I also worked as an editor at a newspaper while at McGill, and have experience proofreading other people's work and improving the work of other writers.
I received 5s on both the AP US History and European History tests, a 4 on the AP Latin test, and a 700+ high score on the SAT US History Subject test. I studied History at McGill University, focusing on American history, as well as taking classes on the classics - I have a deep knowledge of the works of Homer, Ovid, Virgil, and Horace.
I have experience working with unpolished writers and improving their work, as well as a broad knowledge of literature, English grammar rules, history, and the Latin language. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
