My experiences teaching and attending schools are broad and diverse as well as the types of students I have worked with. I received my undergraduate degree in Education from the University of New Orleans with a focus in secondary English and did my student teaching internship at Riverdale High School in Jefferson Parish. Other experiences include teaching English Summer School sessions at De La Salle High School and working in the writing center at Delgado Community College. I approach education through a constructivist lens, meaning the student's experience with the work is what propels them into further understanding the task/material in front of them. I don't see myself as knowing more than anyone, rather I am a guide to help students wade through things that may be difficult. However, I am not afraid to implement formative assessment, drills or simple memorization techniques; think of it as old school meets new school instruction. I got into education as a way to potentially offer new perspective to the field. My experience in school was not great in terms of guidance or advocacy. I feel that my take on helping students is new. At times maybe slightly rouge, but I am confident in my skills as an effective and supportive practitioner.

I share a love of the arts. Aside from my careers in Education, I am a musician. Before teaching I dedicated ten years of my life to touring the country and other parts of the world with my punk band. Creative investments helped me understand more about myself thus creating an outlet for me to express myself. I enjoy writing, reading, songwriting, and cooking. I crave authenticity in all endeavors and strive to always be listening and learning to and from anyone.

Proofreading

Proofreading

For about two years, I've worked at Delgado Community College in the writing center helping students proofread their papers and advocate for whatever they feel the purpose of their paper is. I never see myself as an "editor", always an advocate. So in that way I am more of a writing counselor who encourages rather than an error-seeker who limits perspective.

English

ACT English,

ACT English

During my short time as a teacher at Riverdale High School, I was responsible for preparing my junior level English students for the ACT. We would have at least 30 minutes of ACT prep daily. I created helpful pre-test packets and practice questions that both challenged the students and got them use to ACT vernacular.
English,

English

I have taught multiple levels of English ranging from High School Freshmen to Seniors. I have also worked with adults/college students on writing and language comprehension. I have a nuanced method of English Education that is liberal yet pragmatic. I focus on English as a changing force that adapts as we do, yet in an academic preset, we must understand its fundamental purpose, communication.
Literature,

Literature

I enjoy most literature and have taught novels, plays, poetry, non-fiction, short stories and songwriting (a form of literature in my opinion). Writers of all ages, genders, and races flood my shelves.

Writing

I have written for a local magazine in New Orleans called Antigravity for about 2 years. They have published about a dozen of my music reviews and 2 of my expository pieces. The skills I've learned as a writer I use with my students to encourage and guide students to constructive writing.
