University of New Orleans (Master's)
I have a Masters and a degree in Elementary Education from University of New Orleans. I am a certified, highly qualified educator in the city of New Orleans. I taught in public schools for seven years; first through third grade, and special-education grades pre-K through five. I have been tutoring since 2013, and I love it! It amazes me how much growth can happen in an individual and small group setting, and I love the bond that I get to develop with my students. They trust me, take risks for me and feel that our sessions are fun, yet challenging.
I offer individual, small group and online tutoring. I do both initial assessments, and progress monitoring to keep you knowledgeable about how your child is doing. I will create an individualized curriculum for your child, that will both remediate any academic areas where he or she is struggling, and help them to excel in the classroom setting.
I have over 10 years of experience planning and delivering mathematics instruction to students from pre-K to fifth grade. I am also certified in common core.
I have extensive training and practice in teaching phonics, reading, grammar and the writing process. It was my predominant focus in college while obtaining both of my education degrees, and I've taken many continuing education classes in the past ten years I have been an educator. I love reading and writing, and I find that love to be contagious.
Please contact me if you have any questions, or if you would like to set up a session. I look forward to hearing from you! Thank you so much for trusting me with your child's education! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am certified as a Common Core educator and Evaluator by the state of Louisiana
I taught first grade for 7 years, where the primary goal is to teach phonics and decoding skills. I also worked in preK-5 grade as a special educator, and taught phonics to children with learning disabilities and dyslexia. I have a masters degree in Special Education, and teaching phonics was a large part of my course work.
