I am a writer who's lived all over the country. I've worked in movies theaters most of my adult life, even helping to organize film screenings myself. I am a writer who's lived all over the country. I've worked in movies theaters most of my adult life, even helping to organize film screenings myself. I am a screenwriter who is passionate about sharing writing/critical thinking skills with curious students. Honestly, I'm a complete nerd. I thrive on the connections that can be made between students and their subjects. Nothing could get me excited than helping people understand how the subject relates to them, that flood of awareness that comes when an idea hits a student in just the right way. They can feel it, because it's something they've experienced and can intuit the value. I encourage and help my students to draw these connections between the concepts they are learning about and their own life experiences. It's a teacher's greatest asset.

I majored in Screenwriting at college. I've been a freelance professional writer and journalist for years. I've written six feature-length screenplays, dozens of short stories, and countless articles/blurbs about cinema. I am a bona fide library hound and can usually be found there, behind a stack of books. I am also deeply familiar with many literatures; not simply those found in the canon.

I was deeply involved in student government and civic organizations at high school. I was a History minor at college. I've been a history/politics buff for most of my life. I am one of those crazy people that reads history books for pleasure. I believe the effects of history are all around us (we're living in it!) and it only takes a trained eye to understand the connections between the past and the present. I specialize in American History/Politics and Gov't, Social History, European/Colonial History and the History of Religion.

I've got a lot to share, and I'm always excited to see what students share with me. I don't have a lot of hard-and-fast guidelines to learning. I think one of the most valuable elements of education is how it feeds on diversity and creative problem solving. Like stories, there are as many ways to lea
