About Elizabeth

I discovered my love for tutoring in undergrad where I was a CRLA certified tutor through Randolph College's Learning Resource Center. As a double major in biology and psychology with a pre-med concentration, I tutored various subjects from biology, psychology, English (grammar, writing, and lit, not ESL), and learning strategies. Currently, I am a biomedical sciences PhD candidate.

Growing up, I always had great teachers and professors who were enthusiastic about their jobs and made learning fun and that is what I emulate in my tutoring.

My goal will not be to help you memorize the material, but to be able to understand it and to think critically, so eventually you won't need tutoring, but rather you will be able to problem solve on your own. I want to make this process as fun and enjoyable as possible for both parties and hopefully instill my love of learning (and now teaching).

I look forward to hearing from you and getting you prepared to kick butt on tests and in life!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I was a certified CRLA learning strategies tutor for Randolph College. I worked for a year as a learning strategies tutor my senior year to help students with any listed learning disability such as ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, and aspergers. I was trained to be sensitive to their needs as well as to understand it may take them more time, or breaks, or other conditions in order to help them understand the material.

Study Skills

I was a certified CRLA learning strategies tutor for Randolph College. I worked for a year as a learning strategies tutor to help students with any listed learning disability such as ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, and aspergers. I was trained to help come up with different learning strategies and study skills (i.e. notecards vs. making practice quizzes) and how different learning styles "think" in order to help them come up with ways to study that worked for them and how they processed things.

Zoology

Took and tutored for college level Zoology at Randolph College. We covered all aspects of animals and the animal kingdom, and performed dissections of everything such as worms, crustaceans, frogs, and even cats. Received an A+ in both the lab and the class.
