I am a certified Special Education teacher. I am committed to seeing your child be successful. I believe that students have different learning modes that can not always be neglected. I am trained in several different reading methods that can assist your child or children learn to read ,decode, and write.
Tutoring can be done two ways. I can assist with homework .The second way is I can teach your child to read, decode, encode and write. For this I will need 200 for materials or programs I will need to purchase to teach your child right up in front after we agree. This is a must because each student is different. I will also need to test your child informally if you don't have an IEP.
I have taught special education students learn how to read for 27 years from kindergarten to high school. I have an assortment of reading methods to draw on to teach the most reluctant or learning disabled student to develop reading decoding and comprehension skills.
Learning disabled students work their minds 2 to 3 times harder than those who find reading easy. So these precious children need special lessons and empathetic teachers. Overcoming a learning disability does not happen overnight. However, through retraining the brain and making different and new brain connections students become successful.
As a Resource Room teacher, I not only taught reading writing and math, but also covered science, and social studies for many different grade levels. In the classroom, I would teach reading in units to build prior knowledge, introduce vocabulary, to build interest and motivation to learn. In a tutoring situation there would be mini units or small books used to build confidence.
I have reading training in Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, Lindamood-Bell Reading Recovery, and several other reading techniques.
I am looking forward to meeting you and your child. With the training I do a coffee shop would not be the best place to meet. I would prefer to meet at the library with a study room, because I do blend music, visual, auditory and motor memory with academic learning. It makes it fun, but it more importantly it increases the child's ability to recall what they have learned. I am a professional teacher and your child's success is important. I am a certified special education teacher who is accustomed to teaching children with ADD and ADHD disabilities. I like to use different learning styles with these disabilities to increase short memory and long term memory. It also helps them want to stay motivated.
I'm trained also in behavioral modification techniques. I can write a behavior plan if needed.
I have found that using ADHD students' energy and need for movement can be used to help retain material by spreading out around the room what you want them to learn and practice. This is not always done but is an option for some.
I have experience with TEECH techniques for children with autism. I received a 10-week training session with actual autistic children. I had high functioning students in my resource room and summer school programs.

Each student is different when it comes to studying. The focus is moving short term memory into long term memory without it becoming mundane.
It is important to teach the student which questions they need to ask themselves while reading, listening, and being engaged with the material they are studying
They will need to learn the purposes of reading different materials and how to answer the questions or write a response. They may be asked to apply it a different way as well. These will need to be addressed.
