I am a retired elementary and middle school teacher with 23 years experience in the classroom. One thing that helped me be successful as a teacher is that I loved my students, and they returned that back to me. When there is mutual respect and admiration, success is usually going to happen. I was selected as Middle School Teacher of the Year during my tenure, an honor I always wanted to pass right back to my "kids." It takes a team. The second, and maybe most important, technique I used was to always make sure my students mastered the basic skills and concepts before trying to teach at a higher level.
As your tutor, I will be able to build a personal relationship that is conducive to mutual respect and, of course, learning. In the regular classroom, I always wished for more time to give each student; tutoring will give me just that--a chance to zero in on what you know already, back up when needed to get the basic foundation, then move forward. My joy comes from your growth as a student.
My 23 years experience of teaching Language Arts will provide me with the skills to help you achieve success. My love for my students will make it enjoyable.
Why don't you contact me so that we can talk and get to know each other? I will be more than happy to answer any questions you might have. I believe you will be happy with your choice of tutor! Judy has a genuine interest in helping children with dyslexia. She researches websites to find what best works for the student. The one-to-one sessions have truly benefited my granddaughter. She actually looks forward to ms. Judy's visit.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am most qualified to teach elementary education due to my teaching history. I have taught grades one through eight throughout my 23-year teaching career. My primary subjects were in the Language Arts field: English, Writing, Reading, Spelling, Phonics. Besides being certified and qualified to teach elementary students, my heart lies with the younger student.
I am certainly qualified to teach phonics based on my education degree and teaching experience. I have a life-time elementary education teaching certificate from Louisiana. I taught first grade for several years; a large portion of first grade learning is phonics since the students are just learning to read. I taught language arts for twenty years; again, much of language arts includes phonics at any level.
I am qualified to tutor Reading because I have 23 years experience teaching elementary and middle school students in Language Arts.
I have a personal joy of reading that affects my joy of teaching reading. I have seen the smiles on the faces of my students when they "break the code" of the written language.
I have a life-time teaching certificate in the state of Louisiana.
I am most qualified to teach study skills based on my experience as a classroom teacher for 23 years. I have witnessed the success of those with good study skills and have seen the struggles of those with poor or no study skills. I can help the student get organized and stay on track on a day to day basis during the school week. I can help the student prioritize written homework as well as study/read type homework and work out a plan to make it doable rather than daunting.
I have 23 years teaching experience, all grades 1 - 8, all language arts. I taught at a Middle School in Metairie for 17 years and an elementary school in south Louisiana for six years.
