About Jaime

I grew up in the Midwest and studied civil and architectural engineering in college, where I helped my classmates with their math problems. I realized it was something I enjoyed doing and started tutoring anyone who needed the help. I liked making people feel comfortable with math and boosting their confidence in their own abilities. Watching students catch on to things and succeed in their classes was very rewarding and encouraged me to keep tutoring.

Over the past 10 years, I've tutored subjects ranging from algebra to differential equations to calculus. Most of the people I have helped were in college or high school, but I have also helped people of all ages from 10 to 50. My broad range of experience has improved the way I work to fit a student's needs.

I'm currently a Ph.D. student in applied math at Tulane University. I work in mathematical modeling, which requires a lot of programming and knowledge in all fields of math. As part of my studies, I also work as a teaching assistant and lead classes twice a week, answering students' questions. This has helped me understand the issues most people run into when learning math, and I've become better at giving people the right guidance.

If you want friendly, professional help from a Ph.D. math student with 10 years of experience tutoring math, then contact me to set up a time for a first meeting. My schedule is flexible, and I'm ready to help you with all of your math needs.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Calculus

I have taught and tutored calculus for almost 10 years. I have worked with many students who needed a strong boost to their confidence as well as a desire to improve their grades. Being a Ph.D. math student has greatly improved my math comprehension in all areas, and I can draw from a lot of experience to aid students in their study.

Differential Equations

During my first two years as an PhD math student, I TA'd differential equations twice. I wrote exams and tutored students regularly. I have also trained in both graduate math analysis and partial differential equations.

Linear Algebra

I am a Ph.D. math student in applied math and have to rely on linear algebra fundamentals very frequently. I have taken advanced classes in linear algebra, and frequently use it during my studies. Moreover, I have experience in abstract mathematics, which is a crucial part of linear algebra, even at the applied level.

MATLAB

I am a Ph.D. math student in applied math at Tulane University. I use MATLAB nearly every day, and have done so in many long-term to short-term projects. I have personally tutored a student in using Matlab for a mathematical biology course.

Probability

As a 3rd year Ph.D. student at Tulane, I have the experience of taking on statistics classes covering basic to advanced topics. Moreover, my work relies on statistics regularly, and I've become familiar with the techniques involved in its applications.

very satisfied — Jamie is teaching my daughter calculus, and is making it into what was a difficult subject due to her professor's teaching method, into one that she now understands -- after just 2 or 3 sessions. ...
