Dear Future Student,

I am so looking forward to meeting you and getting acquainted. In the meantime, let me tell you about myself.

I've tutored many students of various ages. The youngest was a three year old girl whose mother wanted her to have early exposure to French.

La mere et la petite fille ont cherche dans des revues pour des images simples at colorees. J'ai prononce les mots en francais. Alors nous avons fait un petit livre. (My computer doesn't make accent marks.)

I'm certified in Second Language Specialist in French, for the young, as well as in secondary French. I did graduate study at Laval University in Quebec.

I have tutored many grade school and high school students in French, phonics. reading, math, English, creative writing, and study skills. A most rewarding experience has been working with employed adults who wanted to improve their general skills or pass a particular test required for advancement. I've tutored the GED.

I've done graduate work in mild/moderate, French, English, ESL, Gifted, and creative writing.

I've published a book of poetry and completed another. I do poetry readings and workshops, in association with Poets and Writers, at libraries, senior centers, and nursing homes.

My approach to tutoring and to life is to regard everyone as unique, interesting, and special.

Public Speaking

In college, I was on the debate team. I've been a member of Toastmistress Club, where I won the regional contest. I was a member of Toastmaster, where I studied their detailed course. I was a classroom teacher for 20 years. I organized and conducted meetings as president of the local AAUW, and as president of the neighborhood civic association. For the past few years, in association with Poets and Writers Magazine, I have been conducting poetry readings and workshops at libraries, senior centers, and nursing homes. Connecting with, and relating to an audience, is most enjoyable.

I have a Master of Education degree. I've taught 4th grade mild-moderate and 4th grade French (I have special certification for teaching French to elementary students.) For years I've tutored this age group in math, reading, phonics, grammar, writing, and language. I've studied the hands on methods of Maria Montessor1 and try to imitate her personal involvement and her gentleness.
Phonics,

Phonics

I have studied the text Phonics Intervention by Lorna Simmons. She wrote this while consulting with phonics teachers all over the country. I used this book in a two year tutoring arrangement with a young adult. Also I have tutored many grade school students, guided by their curriculum. I have a Masters in Education and have studied and taught and tutored Special Ed. My tutor's motto is Encourage and Praise.
Reading,

Reading

My aim is for the student to get comfortable with the written word, which is just another form of communication along with speech. Story telling came first in mankind's history, oral recitation in rhythm and in song. English has a nice rhythm to it. English also is a very expressive language, with a wide ranging vocabulary
Study Skills

Study Skills

I was a classroom teacher for 20 years. During this time I also tutored independently and working for other services. I have studied, on my own, the methods of teaching study skills. Through my years as a student, through post graduate level. I have learned by trial and error. Perhaps the tutor's most important skill is to make the student feel relaxed and hopeful.

She is very patient with my son and has already helped him get better with his english. She is flexible with her schedule and takes her time teaching him. She also sends me updates and gives me pointers about what he can do at home and school to make things better.
