About Carol

I'm an enthusiastic tutor who can respond to your calls for help in math, reading, writing, editing, test preparation, and more. I consistently benefit from the good habits I formed throughout my school years. I have earned a M.S. in Workforce Training and Development, a MBA, and a B.M. in audio recording. My daily focus remains on leading k12 and higher education students through their academic challenges, and I incorporate study skills in any lesson where I see them as needed. The GRE, GED, and Praxis are big tests that require your guidance for which I'm accountable, particular test-taking skills for which I have experience and insight, and organizing for which I have an abundance of methods. You will have to be ready to practice, use your insight, and keep a structured schedule that you commit to! It's not only an intriguing pursuit but also beneficial. I love every bit of this path.

I can help with reading comprehension, spelling, linear algebra, simultaneous equations, learning the alphabet, recognizing proper grammar and punctuation, economics, workforce training and development curriculum, problem solving, charts and diagrams, and more! Critical thinking and quantitative math are regular parts of my lesson plans. ASVAB students come to me to learn their math and science, the two subjects that they must most know on their exams.

The August 2014 Huffington Post says that "as the standardized multiple-choice test fades into the past, students will be expected to develop the answers themselves, and then to explain the process they used. Math students will have to write explanations of their answers. English students will have to cite material they have read to support the positions they take".

I'm persistent, patient, resourceful, and practical-minded. I'm zealous and overall cheerful. Thanks for using Wyzant for your tutoring needs.

I have been tutoring for more than a few years and met many wonderful people. Wyzant I once claimed is my top notch executive secretary. My pupils bring their charm, wishes, and warmth to their lessons. Thank you all immensely for my many cherished memories due to your appearances. Onward let's go!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

While in UNO, I took an anthropology course that offered historical timelines, burial techniques, and rituals and skills of primitive groups. The course connected to my Earth Science courses. My skills will help you to know how to form a panoramic view of anthropological topics.

I had Biology and Earth Science courses while a student during the early part of this century. I can help make ecology, Punnett squares, DNA, RNA, the water cycle, Earth sciences, and the bottom of the ocean seem real with illustrations while you make your reading skills improve just like any college student needs to. I would tell you to cover your biology software at any time on your own but also use your own skill and creativity to make the subject rich with your personal effort. We can build models or read excerpts that I bring to the lesson.

I received my Master of Business Administration degree. The year before I started the MBA program, I took some courses in business at the University of New Orleans. Business Communication Speech I and II courses required us to prepare speeches and deliver them. Some of them were timed. I was gaining experience by participating in presentations, debates, and speeches. To be successful with impressive business interactions in the challenging, fast paced, and competitive field of business you need as much coaching and experience that you can obtain. You can call me to be sure that you are articulating words that aren't that familiar to you. You can also expect me to develop a lesson plan that teaches you the value of structured time and is suited for your particular requirements.

Career Development

I can use my MBA from Herzing University and post-graduate business courses at University of New Orleans plus my own pursuit of jobs to help people who are not yet employees of a business. I also have the web to locate innovative and recent advances made in the job market. In our lessons, we'll create interviews and act in them, seek the parameters of the students' interests and propensities, work to self-assess and locate strong and little compatibility, and look at job boards. We'll take time to analyze our discoveries and concentrate on prioritizing and structuring career development effort.

Composition (Music)

I'm from Berklee College of Music of Boston and Newcomb College of New Orleans. I was a classical piano performer for ten years as a youth and later given my recording studio engineering credentials. I have studied the rules of writing and theory used to create melodies, counterpoint, harmony, sketches, full composition, theory, and chord progressions.

Desktop Publishing

Having had a desktop publishing course at USM, specifically Quark, I designed and constructed trifolds and circulars for art shows. I will help you to insert photos, clip art, and a variety of text. If you bring your difficulty with page layout to me, I'll give you guidance.

Main subjects, finishing touches, preliminary sketches, realism, comparison of expressions of the same subject. patterns and repetitions just graze the surface of the depth of art approaches that my book Drawing With Children encompasses. Once a student in art classes at local schools and related to an artist, I can offer creative Monart methods for drawing and prepare adult beginners and children toward self-confidence, constructive use of time even by diagramming math problems, and increased ability.

Ear Training

As a local New Orleans choir member, I'm required to read new sheet music issued weekly to us by our director. We read the notes on the music staff. An A440 tuning fork or pitch pipe is used to start ear training students. Once the student hums that pitch of A440, it is okay to move on to other frequencies using interval knowledge. If music becomes important as a major pursuit to you, you can learn from me harmony and other unfamiliar parts of written music. We'll examine it as music theory rather than music performance.

Elementary (K-6th)

Students that meet with me weekly in the various public libraries of the GNO area benefit from the large amount of attention that I can give to their particular difficulties. My schooling consistently enables me to reassure students in the areas of test-taking, writing, reading comprehension, ELA, math, computer literacy, science, and more. I haven't forgotten my own elementary school lessons. It pleases me to teach children the love of academic achievement and the different weights that their study skills hold. I wish I could show you the photo of a second grader I have been helping over a long-term period. He has 2nd term ELA, Honor Roll, and math award certificates. I have a good rapport with people and will do my best at all times.

General Music

In my own experience as a private lessons student are the subjects of music theory and performance. Recitals required daily practice that lasted for the ten years I played classical piano. I graduated in music after a hiatus for ten years from piano and loved learning how to use technology manuals and equipment in recording studios. Currently, I participate in a vocal choir and a bell choir for which both sight singing and general music knowledge are important.

I have just started compartmentalizing the LSAT here in 2013 using Barron's pass key so that LSAT test-takers can depend on me to help them. Yet, my goal is to teach you to take your tests with insight, habits, and preparation that you wouldn't have on your own. We should start well in advance of the test date. We can feel relieved that we can see your progress and happy that you were often pleased by our interaction, deductions, observations, and explorations.

Linear Algebra

Tutoring throughout the summer of 2013 with higher education students, I refreshed and built my knowledge weekly by reviewing and solving with them many math problems. These hours included linear equations, quantitative math, graphs, percentages, inequalities, ratios and proportions, and geometry among some others. Cross-multiplication of fractional form equations has to be used to transform the problem into ax + b = 0 where a is not equal to 0, and the final
x = -b/a. I have been using the distributive property, combining like terms, conversions, and radicals in the steps for students.

To fulfill my general requirements in the math area at UNO, I took a Logic Math Course at UNO and earned an A. I also have been tutoring students in Critical Reasoning that I have in my GRE and GMAT as well as LSAT. My reckoning is augmented by my math experience.

I do lots of technical reading and study marketing techniques to keep my online store competitive. I use HTML Markup Language, colors, banners, personalized information, and advertising to market my products.

Microsoft Publisher

I have used Publisher extensively during the last two years. I have the program and the public library I use has a color printer and the program. I make post card size announcements for art shows, large organization functions, and personal websites. I have a lot of fun with it and can certainly help you save time since I know the ins and outs of this program. It will also be my pleasure to show you how to make brochures.

Microsoft Windows

I have used Windows for the last twelve years. I'm familiar with browsers, setting up, uploading, downloading, applications, and your Windows Internet Explorer 8 platform. Does it sound like you need a vocabulary lesson or several? I can help you with the terminology that you'll need when you talk to technicians about lost connectivity or security issues. I had to get quick with various issues in Windows since I have had the pressure of due dates and large simultaneous assignments for school or business. I have a Master of Science from USM and a Master of Business Administration from Herzing University.

Music Production

My degree is in the field of audio recording and was earned in Boston at a renowned jazz college, Berklee College of Music. I have recorded and mixed productions using small and large bands and a variety of genres plus and sweetened basics accomplished by studio musicians with other engineers. I can help you to add or remove instruments that you have chosen for your pieces. If you want to complete multitrack recordings, I can assist you to choose microphones and their placement, figure recording parts schedules, determine budgets, and manage your personnel.

Hello, I worked weekly with nursery school children. I took an active interest in helping them with phoneme awareness (the sounds of each letter in the alphabet), word groups, and the movements their mouth makes. I pay close attention to enunciation and progress with pronunciation. I bring my laptop to lessons and will plan lessons whether original or from websites with your help.

Sight reading in choir practices and performing with the NOLA Volunteer Orchestra, a degree in music from Berklee College of Music, private piano and group theory lessons under the guidance of Jane Smisor Bastien once upon a time at Newcomb College next to Tulane University, and two semesters of sight singing at UNO qualify me to lead you in keyboard study. I don't have a keyboard presently so you and I will have to improvise; I don't visit homes of students.

Praxis is really enlivening and rather like getting a seven course meal ready for 10 guests. You can pass if you just prioritize and recite aloud. I have taken and passed two Praxis II exams. Your call to a tutor means that you are ready to reach this goal and get to another. I'll be pleased to help you with the Praxis material. I have the PRAXIS II: NTE (National Teacher Examinations Preparation Guide) in paperback. Let's get together to sharpen your skills.

Public Speaking

I'm skilled at delivering oral and oral and visual presentations using PowerPoint, Excel, and slide projectors. I was taught delivery techniques, coaching, and proper timing at two different universities. Techniques include eye to audience contact, vocal projection, and giving anecdotes. My recent experience includes college classrooms, exhibitions for merchandising companies, substitute teaching, and the fellowship halls of two churches.

Sight Singing

I receive a new song weekly for both vocal choir as well as bell choir. I use my sight singing skills like anyone there to reach the right notes. I learned how to sing at the first sight of a song written in musical form in private lessons and in college classrooms.

Social Studies

I'm qualified to direct you through maps, scales, American History and Government, U.S. relations with other nations, and timeline changes. I recently passed a social studies exam for professionals wishing to teach, and can help you to do the same.

At the Jefferson Center of UNO, I studied sociology for one semester, and I earned an A. Understanding his dissemination of the reckoning done by large and small numbers of people (and peoples is what sociology is about), I was pleased to receive an A. I can reel off facts that can be substantiated in books and in computer search engines. I can direct sociology students to necessary material and include composition-writing and study habits.

Study Skills

A tutor certified in study skills can extract and compile vital information for students. The web presents loads of overwhelming information about the subjects in school and also study skills. Students may not be able to cover everything. My intention as a study skills tutor is to focus for the student until the student can. I know how to format and reformat information, find the key issues, and demonstrate mnemonic approaches that students can use when preparing their classwork. I know that smart study habits can decrease the anxiety of students. I have done that for myself before and am willing to help others do it. I have helped countless students while teaching to pay attention to the fine points of collecting and organizing information. Studying can be fun once students take note to studying as an art.

WyzAnt presents me with students that need to increase their study skills. Due to my workforce training and development, as well as business degrees that I have and the teaching in K-12 that I do, I know how to study and guide you to study. My sources of studying approaches are from the web, my own educators, years of experience as an educator, and my personal library collection. I am a degreed, practical knowledge scientist. As a student striving for a degree, I had to meet the course criteria, was expected to submit assignments in a timely fashion, and finish extensive research before constructing presentations and papers. Gradually, I began to study more proficiently and feel better in the time it took to get a desirable result. I learned that I would have to organize what I studied so that from year to year I could locate what I had researched and logged and use it again. Your students will learn from me how to efficiently package your academic efforts.

Knowledgable and patient tutor.

Carol does a great job with my son teaching him the basics of algebra. We were seeking someone to tutor my son over the summer to keep his mind active. She has done a great job helping him to understand the basic concepts of algebra before he enters the seventh grade.
