I am a recent Xavier graduate with a Bachelors in Sociology. I volunteered at home work help for two years working with students on English and Basic math assignments. This is where my passion for working with youth developed. Soon after graduating I did a year of service through City Year New Orleans as a fifth grade instructor. I led three small groups and two reading and writing interventions. Results of these one on one weekly groups include higher grades, learning how to become better writers, and higher test scores.
As an enrichment teacher, I taught life skills to a group of third fourth and fifth grade girls for their summer school course. These girls learned how to cope with daily issues that they face on a daily basis from bullying to being a better student. During my time as a teacher I built multiple strong ties with students and learned so much about myself. I soon hope to obtain my Masters in Social Work as a school counselor. I have a passion for working with adolescents and teaching African American of all ages the resources that are available to them.
As a Youth Development Coach, I will be in charge of homework help, tutoring and lesson planning and finding different strategies to help students of all ages learn and master his or her assignments.
Having a background in Sociology, writing papers and English go hand in hand, I worked with some of the best professors that critiqued my work in college and to the point where I started to perfect my writing. I've conducted research, spent numerous hours writing papers. During the previous school year, I was a ELA instructor, I made sure that my students knew how to write a thesis and were prepared for their writing exams by knowing the difference between a narrative, literary analysis, and research essay.
I am very good and reading music. I performed in many choirs and competitive organizations where sight singing was a major part of scoring and winning a competition.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have extensive experience taking honors English courses in middle school all the way up to high school. In college, my course load consisted of several research papers and grammar assignments. I received excellent grades on all my research exams.
As a teacher, I taught grammar, vocabulary, and English to 5th grade students. I supported Spanish speaking students that year as well. During homework help, I worked with all students and grades.
I am very familiar with common core and how tricky it can be to follow. I helped my 7 year old niece with her 2nd grade course work.
